Holy crap, that's one almighty heterosexual shirt you're wearing, Justin! Honestly, I think Justin should be topless. Get some nudity on the show, y'know? Make the show THE show, y'know? Paint him green and dress him up as the ripped shirt, purple pants-Hulk, y'know? Or the dark blue jumpsuit Hulk. That'd be awesome too, but I think you should go with ripped shirt Hulk. That's all that's keeping The Stack from rising to the top: the lack of Justin-nudity. Think about it, y'know? :D
Great thing as always. Excellent picks all-around. Great review. Keep it up.
In my honest opinion, Dark Knight is a comic book geeks dream movie come true, but question: after such a great movie...should they make a sequel?
CAN they make a sequel with no joker on it? hard i think...
one of the greatest things about this last batch of batman movies is that they are not killing the villains, which is not only true to the comic book material but also awesome cause it lets you reuse them...
With heath gone though, thats no llnger an option...
As for other Batman must reads, I just re-read The Killing Joke the other day, and its just amazing. The Joker and Batman in that probably heavily influenced the film.
The Grant Morrison Arkham book is A Serious House on Serious Earth, and is one of the first books Dave McKean ever illustrated. The dialog is just incredible throughout the book. My only complaint is the lettering in the Joker's word balloons is nearly illegible, which completely takes you out of the story while you attempt to decipher it. It's too bad too because its some of the best written Joker dialog ever.
Matt Wagner did 2 Batman:Dark Moon Rising books which had quite a bit of romance in them. I think there's even a bedroom scene where Bruce has obviously just finished giving the old 'bat pole' a workout.
I've re-read Year One recently, and it doesnt do much for me. The whole origin story/1st adventures thing has just been done so many times. Gordon was definitely more interesting than Batman in that story.
I love the stories in the Dark Knight Returns books, but I hate the art. That era of Miller art was horrid. I'd love to see a more standard artist re-draw Dark Knight.
Justin, get a girlfriend so she can pick out your wardrobe for you...or change thrift stores.
RE: Gotham City. I couldn't get it into my head that The Dark Knight was set in Gotham. All I could see was Batman defending Chicago, which is cool, cause I like Chicago.
"There's the L. There's Navy Pier. There's the Sear's Tower. There's Lower Wacker Dr."
whenever he was gonna start his scar speech i cringed a little
I thought the movie was absolutely fantastic!! I got to see it in IMAX and it was amazing. The Joker was everything I'd heard he was and then some. I also agreed with the guys that Aaron Eckhart gives a great, if over-shadowed performance. The only real negative I had, at least immediately was Bale's 'gruff Batman voice' it seemed a little much most of the time. But a phenomenal movie, and I don't see how a sequel could possibly live up to what's been already been put to screen.
okay i saw the show last night and well.. and i gotta say a few things.
1.Maggie Gyllenhaal made me dislike the character as a whole and made me completely loose any belief that bruce would care for her as much as he did.
2. Ledger Joker was fucking amazing BUT so was two face.. i dont want him to be over sited.. while two face wasnt nearly as ground breaking he was still light years better than tommy lee jones' take on the character.. but boy o fuckin boy was heath way more incredible than i expected when i first heard he was given the role.. everyone was saying no one can beat jack nickolsons version but gotta say FATALITY! FLAWLESS VICTORY! (used of course in honor of batman and joker bein in the new mortal kombat game) but in any phrase he SMASHED it..
3. im a little sad there was no harley quinn but i wasnt holding my breathe.. and what was up with showing gordons sons face but never his daughters.. i understand that shes batgirl and maybe theyll do something with her later.. but wtf is she completely dense? his son has speaking lines, runs down stairs to check on his father, looks up at twoface, is the only of the two kids that comes to the door when they get the bad news.. WTF..
4. they never go into what happens with the dude wayne saves with the lambo.. or are we just to write that one off?
5. the movie as a whole was . . . BETTER than begins.. re watch begins and say its not... i dare ya. They were fare less true to the comics in the first movie, the Villains werent HALF as awesome and truly threatening as they are in Dark Knight.
and the plot set ups for the next movie make your mouth water right from the get go. its just a better flick.
and yeh.. the batman voice made me laugh the whole time.. didnt know batman was a chain smoker.. tho when they made the crack about him needing a new suit so he could move his neck was classic.. an aside to every batman movie so far.. minus adam wests batman movie.. but ... we wont count that.
Way to spoiler the crap out of the movie.
As to #4, Joker blew everything up and the threat wasn't there any more. No need to anything to happen to him.
In response to Fooray, while I thought this movie was better I also think what you had to say about Begins was a lil off. This movie succeeds in the fact that it's not just about Batman, but the city, the community w/in it and the villains threatening it and how Batman is turning everything on it's ear. Begins was more about..well...Batman's beginning. I think Batman Begin's is the best hero origin movie ever and since it set up Bruce Wayne/Batman's belief system there was no need for him to be all vein in the sequel and hog the movie...it let other characters develop deeper when you weren't expecting it to.
Heath Ledger was fantastic and he absolutely earned my praise..and not just because it's all posthumous, if he were still alive I'd feel the same.
Really wonder what they're going to do about this unfortunate twist of events though if they do decide to umm...yeah I won't spoil.
the thing i like the most of the new batman movies is that it focus's on eveybody else besides batman, i consider dark knight a joker and harvey dent movie not a batman one
THE DARK KNIGHT WAS EVERYTHING I'VE EVER WANTED IN A BATMAN FLICK!!!!!!!
I'M ON THIS AGAIN LIKE ANGELINA JOLIE ON A 3RD WORLD ORPHAN!!!!!
When they show Dent in the bed with the bandage on his face and the words "...lose faith..." were said by Maggie Gyllenhaal, I thought she said "lose face" except with a lisp. My wife and i were the only ones laughing.
Would it also be possible to have a spoiler review of the movie?
Spoiler Alert? I assume the entire world has seen it by now
Wow, spectacular. My only complaint is probably not enough Joker, I couldn't get enough of Heath Ledgers performance, hell I wouldn't have minded the movie being called "Joker (+a little batman)". I kind of hope two face is dead, I loved the way they handled it, and don't see him as a strong enough character to follow the joker.
Catwoman would be fun, but in a very different way of course. They'll be hard pressed to follow this film
I agree with you guys everything about the movie was top notch, except the sometimes clunky dialogue and Bale's cookie monster voice. The end was also kind of dissapointing after all the great moments leading up to it. I was left wanting more than your typical "good guy caught the bad guy" ending.
I actually went to see it in a regular theater first so when I go back the second or third times, I can do it in IMAX, to look forward to it even more. Is that a record for a run on sentence, lemme know, holla!
We're actually going with a large group from our office at Next New Networks on Monday afternoon to the Lincoln Center IMAX. I'll naturally be taping as much of our "field trip" as possible. I'll be sure to post a link once I can get it on youtube. It should be interesting.
Raise your hand if you or someone you know gets to leave work early to see movies with your office!
First off I want to say that My favorite batman book was Paul Pope's Batman Year 100.
As for the Dark Knight it wasn't that great of a movie. I could have waited to watch it on DVD. I think they should have taken some elements from the first movie. It was just to damn long, unlike Batman Begins which was short and sweet. Every time it should have ended it just continued on. I'm mad they killed Two Face and made Batman the villain. Why?I do love the fact they gave batman a better suit. Also, Heath Leadger performance as the Joker was f**king amazing. He scared the crap out me a few times. But I think a lot of people are confusing Heath's great performance as the Joker with the movie as a whole. To me Batman Begins is still the greatest comic book movie of all time.
