Something I would like to see envisioned is Dr Strange by Neil Gaiman with Romita Jr, Cliff Chiang, or Jock on art.

    • IJones (guest) wrote on June 30, 11:29 pm

You're on to something with Gaiman and Romita Jr, Andy. What if these two re-did Rom? Bendis and Hitch on Micronauts? Stern, Byrne and Austin John Carter, Warlord of Mars?

      Love the Two-In-One idea too.

    • Andy (guest) wrote on July 1, 11:11 am

The main reason I suggested Dr Strange with those two was at Wizard World last year when I was getting my stuff signed by JR JR, my friend asked if he and Neil Gaiman were going to do anything else together? And he said he was trying to convince Neil to work on Dr Strange with him. So that got the idea in my head and I like it. Then again, I like the way Dr Strange is now he just needs a writer who understands his purpose and his point. And Joe Q needs to stop toting this whole he has too much power crap.

      sooooooo yeaaaaaah.

    • IJones (guest) wrote on July 2, 11:17 am

Hey, JoeyQ thinks magic is the end all and be all these days. Fans can say, what? But, it's magic! *sigh* However, I'd love to see that Dr. Strange story. And, isn't JR Jr. one of the coolest, nicest guys.

Ellis's Astonishing looks pretty good, after seeing some teasers it looks like it starts right where Whedon left off which is good. While Final Crisis #2 was so fucking amazing. I admit the first issue was confusing, but damn this series is getting better by the issue. Batman fighting Alpha Lanterns, the return of a Flash, and a very good villian with Libra...how can you not love this series right now? Oh and Pete, stop being a douche and read the comic, not go on Wikipedia and get the story summary. Dumbass

So sad to see Ellis leave Thunderbolts. I just know it's not going to be good after the new writer comes in. Also, a BPRD comic? A new one? Sign me up!

    • Andy (guest) wrote on June 30, 3:37 pm

I don't think Pete is reading the summary on wikipedia, I think he is just going over the basic structure points that grant Morrison uses in his writing.

    • Charlie Schneider (guest) wrote on June 30, 7:48 pm

He doesn't read the wiki, he actually did that on the spot. Although I don't have the robust knowledge of all of Morrison's epic works, Pete does. Most authors do have patterns in the way they write that emerge over time.

Alex was flaberghasted when Pete accurately described both issues 1 and 2. But the real bet is will Pete's faux reviews hold true across the entire Final Crisis run.

We're taking bets here, so write in whether or not you think he'll be able to accurately review each issue without actually reading them. Let us know what you all think.

    • IJones (guest) wrote on June 30, 11:23 pm

Pete is not a dumbass. He didn't like the Countdown and doesn't want to read Crisis. I don't blame him.

I didn't much care for the last Frontline and I'm not happy with Marvel flooding the market with freakin' tie-in's. Can't you tell the whole story in the main title? No, you make people pick up the tie-in's to get the WHOLE story.

    • mrmister wrote on June 30, 3:13 pm

Ellis did a great job over the course of his run, but not on this issue. Sorry to see him leave the title with this as the finale.

    • Moeez (guest) wrote on June 30, 4:27 pm

Whenever I go to NYC, I'm going to think of "coming down!" to your great show, definitely!

Great show, it looks like Final Crisis is going somewhere really good. BPRD, solid all the time.

    • IJones (guest) wrote on June 30, 11:31 pm

Go see 'em. You'll enjoy yourself.

    • Steven J. Vasquez (guest) wrote on June 30, 5:11 pm

Loved Final Crisis #2. Even though I knew what was coming at the end, it was still KILLER when I saw it. The 2nd from the last ending with the last son of ...that other planet... was a shock.
So far I like the book.

    • Lusvell (guest) wrote on June 30, 5:21 pm

Really? Cause I totally didnt see the ending of Final Crisis #2 coming at all. I knew he was coming back, just not the way I expected it. Issue 1 was kind of confusing, like the others said, but this...It was quite an improvement, a pleasant surprise and a good read overall.

I've heard great things about Ellis' run on Thunderbolts, sadly I havent really read it at all. Which issues should I start with?

    • Steven J. Vasquez (guest) wrote on June 30, 5:25 pm

I agree with Justin on a new Aquaman. I'd always wanted to see Michael Turner do that one since his work on Fathom. Now that he's gone that will never be (R.I.P. Michael). I'd love to see Jim Lee on a year long Wonder Woman run as he did with the Batman and Superman titles. I think I'd be cool to artistically close out D.C.'s "holy trinity" with his art.

    • Steven J. Vasquez (guest) wrote on June 30, 5:39 pm

      Lusvell.
I agree with what you said on the "comeback". I was speaking in general on that "comeback". As for the way it happened, it was a great way to do it. This story is looking good so far. How about the plot thread of the kid who was exiled from the Monitors? The shot of him with the art in front of him interested me the most. Take a closer look at those drawings.

      Hmmmmm...

    • Lusvell (guest) wrote on June 30, 5:52 pm

They are probably multiverse versions of Superman and the other heroes. One of them looks like an angry superman with symbol similar to Kingdom Come's Superman. The onther looks like Supergirl, apparently called "Overgirl"?? and a Monitor portrait. but yea, I thought that was pretty sweet as well.

He's kind of similar to Black Adam's last story, where he's saying random words in order to turn into his super-powered version.

WHY AREN'T THESE ON iTUNES IN HD YET?!?!?! The last 2 episodes aren't in HD on itunes still.

    • SAMURAi (guest) wrote on July 1, 11:50 pm

its on my itunes since they uploaded.. those last 2 episodes too.

      Great show once again!

    • leland222 wrote on June 30, 7:31 pm

      wait they are. i'm dumb

Love Ellis and Bianchi on X-Men. It's beautiful and funny. Been awhile since an X-Men book has been both.

Dont give in Pete! As you so aptly pointed out this is completely predictable, formulaic, and irrelevant.

I'll miss Ellis on Thunderbolts, it was a good run and he actually handled a superhero title very well, which was unexpected.

I'd like to see a Dingbats of Danger Street series. A DC Kirby creation thats never really been used.

As usual the WMV and iTunes downloads dont work, again. How about testing this shit since its broken EVERY frakkin week? The production values of the site have done nothing but go down hill since it was revamped.

    • Andy (guest) wrote on July 1, 10:57 am

it download perfectly fine in iTunes for me just as the show came out.

and sure maybe Grant Morrison starts out a bit formulaic, but this series has still been very good so far and will only ramp it up in the following issues. I wish I could say the same for secret invasion.

    • HipHopHead wrote on July 1, 12:44 pm

Pete's ability to nail the premises of Final Crisis #2 without reading it, says alot about the weak product. How about giving Jim Shooter a shot at being the E-I-C at DC?

That was not a "police car" but a fire truck (and I am 3,000 miles away). Then again it could have been The Ohio Players.

    • IJones (guest) wrote on July 2, 11:22 am

The Ohio Players? Perfect! Dude, thanks for the chuckle.

I just now signed up to be able to comment, but I have been watching these since they first started here. How the show has grown! (I do miss A Comic Book Orange, though)
Still- the dynamic you three have is perfect. I feel like I get every aspect of a review from you guys. -As well as a lot of laughs...
I only wish this show was a tad-bit longer; like if you gave more detailed explanations of your opinions of why a book worked or did not work for the main segment. -And then the speed round time was increased to what the main segment is now.
I know you guys are busy and all but an extra six minutes, or so, would really flesh the show out- in my opinion...

I was watching some of The Comic Book Club that a fan filmed on YouTube (and- you should really film those to air on this site, too) and the review time you gave to books on there seemed to be more like what I'm saying you should have on this show. If I'm making sense at all...

Still- that's just me wishing out loud. I have not so much money to spend on my comics each month and I like that this show takes no sides and gives honest opinions and reviews and even spoilers.
I've always watched and will continue to do so- it's my main dose of nerd-tainment every other day... and it keeps me in the loop.

      Remaking a character?

      Evil Ernie.

Put anyone that could throw in some cool gore and a writer that can put a series together hungover on cheap beer and Judas Priest.

      WIN!

    • rmoonyose wrote on July 2, 7:09 am

I think they should remake evil ernie.

Stupid and schlockie, just get any decent artist who loves him some gore and any writer who can do the whole thing while hungover on Natty Light and Judas Priest.

    • Danny (guest) wrote on July 2, 10:05 am

Really? Alex didn't ask for an Alpha Flight remake? I mean, Power Pack is cool, and a "Where are they now?" line would be interesting, but I want to see Box back.

Astonishing X-Men #25, Final Crisis #2, and Secret Invasion: Frontline #1

Alex starts things off with a look at Astonishing X-Men #25.  Pete was surprised by how much he liked Warren Ellis' new take on the title, but Alex has a few things to say about the characters.  Then we look at Grant Morrison's second issue of Final Crisis.  Pete has a funny review of the issue and Alex reminds us of the million dollar bet he has with Pete over the Final Crisis series.  Next it's the debut issue of Secret Invasion: Frontline.  During the Speed Round we look at BPRD: The Ectoplasmic Man, Mythos: Captain America #1, Thunderbolts #121, Beyond #2, Project Superpowers #4. Then Jason writes in, "What comic book would you like to see re-made, and what team of artists would you pick?"  Be sure to tune in to see what the guys answers were!

Be sure to watch The Stack three times a week, and send your comments and questions to tips@pulpsecret.com!
