the problem is that comic book movies cost so much to make that they have to be blockbuster to be a success.

Is marvel going to be okay with that? Will they have the wherewithal to put out movies that don't become monster hits?

At the same time people need to learn that every comic book movies does not need to be a monster hit. It seem people get upset if it's not they best movie ever but we go to see most movies not expecting them to be the best movie ever.

can Hulk set a new tone of a solid movie that does not need to make 90m+ to be thought of as a success?

i love the cel thing at the beginning of marvel's movies. dc's new opening is really cool, too. im glad that they've both attempted some level of creativity with their movies instead of just putting up a banner that says "marvel/dc comics presents"

I love the cel openings too, its a great homage to the comic and artists and events that brought this film to life.

I think you guys are confused by what he means. He does not mean "amination cel" like the Marvel comic panels logo. He means biological cells, as in they always do a closeup of the siuperheroes cells and how their biology is different or weird during the credits of the movies.

The Leader!! that was a good burn on Alex. At least it wasn't Modok.

Speaking of the cut opening scene, 4thletter! took a look at the novelization of the movie and listed all the things cut from the final edit, including the opening sequence.

It's so hard to pick out the best Hulk runs, there have been so many.I havent read Planet Hulk yet, but I'm sure its good. I loved so many parts of Peter David's Hulks. Mr Fixit the Gray Hulk, Future Imperfect, etc. There were so many good arcs.

I think this new Red Hulk series is really enjoyable, and I cant wait to see the payoff. Everyone is a giant monster, its great. One of the most fun comics I read right now.

Sadly, they did cut the Captain America scene from the final cut, it was blurbed on newsarama a few days ago. Hopefully the dvd will have it as a deleted scene, or directors cut.

I'm not surprised Norton hammed it up and made it more 'look at me' melodramatic. I've been saying thats what he would do since day one.

I look forward to the Avengers film, where we can dwell less on the personal problems of these guys, and have fun.

While it is not a strictly Hulk storyline I love the way he is portrayed in Erik Larsen and Kurt Busiek's Defenders run, he constantly fights with Namor and never calls anyone by their real name, just silly nicknames he came up with. Like Valkyrie=Spear Girl even though she uses a sword most of the time, something Hulk points out and gets FURIOUS over. Its a great arc and I wish it had continued past 12 issues.

i generally enjoy comic book political allegories. So I'm intrigued by Alex's reference to the politics in Starlin's 1986 "Thing/Hulk: The Big Change". I've tried to find summaries online that might give a sense of this, but have come up empty. Does anyone know?

It's satirizin' time! now i really want to read it. A funny critique of bureaucracy and McCapitalist food production. And wicked art to boot. No, sir, it doesn't get better.

I even impressed myself finding that page. It took me a good hour or more of link leaping to luck onto it. I bookmarked that site for future investigation, it looks pretty whacky in an OCD sort of way.

wow man, how do find this stuff. but y does it say if you want a profile on spidey or wolverine you have came to the wrong place?

    • Bombardem wrote on June 14, 8:44 pm

Because this guy is all about the minutiae of Marvels universe, the stuff people gloss over. He actually does have a profile of Spider-Man, actually like 25 of them, but none are the mainstream spider-man. They are weird things like th Hulk who was bitten by a radioactive spider, weird elseworlds style spider-man appearances.

This site is really crazily detailed. He also has links to other sites that are similar to his. This is definitely a resource worth a bookmark.

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote on June 13, 11:46 pm

Honestly, it's going with the majority; but how can you not like Peter David's run on Hulk? He was the person who wrote him the longest, and has written some of the best storylines for Hulk in the character's life. Loeb's Hulk: Grey is a close second with a great view on the early days of Hulk

I have yet to see the movie, but with the reviews and comments on the internet: this movie looks like another great hit by Marvel. Plus if the cameo's I've heard are any indication, Marvel is the best film studio right now period. They are focused on making a universe with these movies, both with single characters and for the Avengers movie. Now they just need to make Ant-Man a revelant film hero and they will turn into the gods of film making.

Fav. run... PLANET HULK.. just Great.. in every way.

Now, the movie, saw it last night.. was awesome.. not iron man awesome but thats not a bad compliment.. liked it ALOT.. i was like 5-6 times in the scenes ready to jump up.. and in the cameo scene with Tony i was shaking like a mixer :P

the only thing i wanted more.. was Hulk to talk.. to say more things than just a Betty and of-caurse HULK SMASH ( which i think i had a heart-attack at that moment ) :P

oohhh it was just SOLID! ( as the stack says )

Loved it! want more.. cant wait fot Punisher & Wolverine!

    • David (guest) wrote on June 21, 9:12 am

Saw it yesterday, my opinion is exactly teh same as u stated sir.

    • rmoonyose wrote on June 14, 7:07 am

I felt the difference between this and Iron Man, why people might have reservations, is that Iron Man told an origin story while the Incredible Hulk told a story in progress. The origin has happened and we don't see the characters get to where they are. However, this is why Tim Roth, I think, will be the character that is universally loved in this movie cause he's the character that the audience can latch on to cause he's learning everything from the get go and is our window into why things are the way they are. And, cause, hey, it's Tim Roth. With everyone else, it's in progress. Bruce Banner has been living with this problem and is controling it, Thunderbolt Ross has been hunting him for some time, Betty Ross has dealt with the tragedy that happened with the experiment and has moved on. It's a sequel lacking a prequel and Marvel chose to ignore the 2003 Ang Lee Hulk. Maybe a sequel can flesh out the back story more. Also, Bruce Banner is supposed to get angry. He NEVER gets angry. He Hulks out when his blood pressure gets to high so basically he should be saying "You wouldn't like me when I'm excitable." Just look at the near love scene. I mean unless Bruce Banner likes him some really hardcore angry sex but lets not go there.

Regardless of its actually relatively minor flaws I really enjoyed the movie. The look of the Hulk was fantastic, the stuff with Tim Roth was crazy good and the connection to Iron Man put me over the top.

HULK MOVIE SMASH!!! i said it. but seriously, it was great. all the little stuff like lou f. being the security guard, bruce refusing to wear the purple pants, and hulk finally saying something. Also you know mr. blue? you think that dude is kinda doc samson? i dunno, great movie, almost as good as the stack!

    • bandito (guest) wrote on June 14, 9:23 pm

oddly enough in reference to the leader joke, i just read that he was in the movie and the mr. blue is doc samson.

Saw The Incredible Hulk on Friday for the 1st time and went Saturday to see it a 2nd. Definitely up to at least a 3rd viewing (like I did with Iron Man). Obviously, I loved it. Loved all of the nods and winks to Marvel U and Captain America. The Tony Stark cameo was great and left a taste for things to come (AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!!). Did anyone else think that the lightning (rain at the end of the college campus fight, and the storm at the cave) could've been Thor? The movie does make a mention of the storms hindering the search for Hulk and Betty in the newsbrief. Was Thor helping Hulk from afar?
      Hmmmmmm...
When I went on opening day, a friend of mine who works the local comic shop was in the lobby of the theater selling Hulk comics for the store. I got a hold of Skaar: Son of Hulk. VERY IMPRESSIVE 1ST ISSUE. Loved it. Ron Garney's art was amazing. It's evolved since his last Hulk run and his already stellar work on Captain America. A different visual flavor from him and it more than fits the title. Greg Pak's writting is (as always) awesome. I loved his World War Hulk with the incomparable John Romita Jr. on the art. I haven't read Planet Hulk and I've heard great things. I'm looking into buying a trade of the storyline. What did the rest of you think of it, in all honesty?
I'd like to know, so I can better gauge a level of feedback on it, so I can better decide if it's worth it.

    • Bombardem wrote on June 15, 3:14 pm

IMHO Skaar is going to be the next big thing from Marvel. He has the potential to become a Wolverine class character and anyone who doesnt grab a few #1's is going to be kicking themselves in a few years.

    • Steven J. Vasquez (guest) wrote on June 15, 1:13 pm

      Bandito,
Betty Ross' boyfriend is Dr. Leonard Samson (Doc Samson) and Mr. Blue was Dr. Samuel Sterns (a.k.a. The Leader). Watch the scene where Emile Blonsky (Tim Roth) transforms fully into the Abomination. When Dr. Sterns is hurt watch his head just before the scene shifts. He'll be the Leader in the next flick.
      HULK SMASH!!!

Hulk is awesome, the best film i've seen this year... I enjoyed iron man but this blew it away=)

    • patrick (guest) wrote on June 19, 3:00 pm

this new Incredible Hulk is a lot more fun than the first one with Eric Bana; Ed Norton does his usual specialty -- the "split personality" role...

    • laseraw wrote on June 20, 4:00 pm

just saw it and did not enjoy it.
did like the long brazilian opening but fell to pieces with the inclusion of the supporting cast back in the US.
this film is not at all better than the one before in my opinion; and poorly handles both drama and action aspects of the story.
worst thing on a technical level is that the creature effects are less believable than the ones produced 4 years ago... which is a sad thing to have on this evergrowing action blockbuster genera (cgi seemed right out of a ps3 game)

    • Zack Mckinley (guest) wrote on June 21, 10:15 pm

i love the cell thing, it shows you the gamma poisoning thing in his blood. i saw the movie wednesday with my girlfriend, and i wanted to shout out in joy when he was strangling the abomination with that chain, but i didn't cuz i try to keep my nerdy side repressed like david banner supresses the hulk inside him.
