CGC as a grading tool for vintage comics is great. But the grading and packaging of new comics is really offputting. One of my favorite moments at (I think) the NYCC was when someone who won a CGC copy of Fathom destroyed it on camera, and walked away leaving the trashed CGC container on the floor.

Selling new comics as CGC graded, at 10x their cover price or more is just ridiculous catering to OCD collectors.

Couldn't agree with you more Bombardem. I don't know if this true or not, but I hear they charge you a small percent of what the comic is worth according to them. Is this true? If it is, doesn't this seem biassed way of grading comics. I would LOVE it if someone explained to me how they charge people for grading their comics.

I don't want to say CGC is a scam but how many times have you read about people who send in a previously graded 8.5 and it comes back a 9.6 or higher. Can someone explain that one?

Why would someone speculate getting new comics graded? Bombadem is right about vintage graded comics. I had a Amazing Spider-Man graded @ 4.0, ASM # 25 @ 5.0, ASM # 50 @ 9.0 and ASM # 200 @ 9.6. They only wanted the standard payment. Maybe a percentage for Silver Age? Then again, those are low grades on those early ASM's. HA! Was there a third party grading that 8.5 that turned into an 9.6? 9.6 sounds better anyway man.
