What I love about this R.I.P run is that it is totally fucking our minds. Seriously, this issue proves that a lot of this stuff most likely isnt happening to him just blows me away. Also, I would love to see changes with his past with his parents. It's a huge twist that I wouldnt see coming actually. But where is Joker? I want my Morrison Joker and I want it now!
Invincible Iron Man has been pretty good, I just still dont see a reason for this. The Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. title is much better and doesnt need to go back to the movie to make storylines. I just hope your wrong about Invaders/Avengers cause I loved the first issue and I love Alex Ross.
Well, it would seem to me that classic Claremont stuff is the place to start. And it's all available in the super-cheap Essentials books, after all.
My girlfriend's been making her way through them: and even being a comic book fan herself, she was shocked at just how pulled into it she was after the shaky beginning...
I'm hoping the current X-books start getting better. Everything is in shambles after Messaih Complex, and whats up with this hippy stuff. I'd suggest reading some of the Jim Lee and Claremont stuff from back in the day. That would be good for a new reader to get a sense of who the X-men are.
Just this minute UPS delivered my monthly comics order, which contains all those #1 issues for Av/In and IIM, so I finally get to read them.
I hope you guys review *omg cant believe I am saying this* the DC book *arghhh* Trinity on friday. But seriously, I've been saying for 6 months this is going to be the best thing DC has put out in decades, and its living up to the hype. Skip the Crisis, buy the Trinity.
Trinity was friggin' great! This is how a weekly comic should be done. Not to crazy about the second story, but the first one was excellent enough not to let that bother me.
XMEN is really dissapointing me. If ever ret-con is needed, its now to reverse everything since House of M
I agree, I thought it was going to get good when they gave Rogue her own team, then it all when to shit a few issues later. Xavier should have stayed dead and became a martyr the team rallied around. The Xmen need to go chat with Mephisto.
You have to see MACROSS FRONTIER A NUMBER ONE
Manga is the devil
just wanted to say that Pete seemed a lot more mellow than he has recently. he is usually cutting Justin off and continually interputing (Justin and Alex have been doing a great job of holding their tongues when he does this, but today he sat back, waited his turn and had some good comments. Nice work Pete.
X-Men recommendations?
Days of Future Past, cause it's cheap. There was also an X-Men story called Days of Future Present that I also liked as a kid, but that's me so I wouldn't say it's required I just want to put that out.
God Loves, Man Kills if you can find the single edition graphic novel.
Dark Phoenix saga and From The Ashes, they make good companions and tell some of the classic X-Men tales and honestly if these don't do it for you nothing will.
Fantastic Four Versus X-Men, great story centered around Kitty Pryde and Franklin Richards with Dr. Doom in on the fun.
X-Tinction Agenda, cause I started reading X-Men during this arc and got sucked in, great story, great action, great art.
Inferno, even if you have to have a lot of prior knowledge you can still figure stuff out.
Grant Morrison's New X-Men and Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, all good but like Inferno I think prior knowledge is necessary.
X-Men Recommendations? If you don't mind black and white then you can't go wrong with buying volume one of Claremonts X-Men. They're like 10 bucks a pop on amazon and you get 25 issues. If you get the first 2 volumes you'll get Dark Phoenix Sage and Days of Future past and you'll actually be able to really enjoy them because you'll have all the background leading up to them.
I LOVE THE STACK!!! Three times a week is awesome and I couldn't be happier. Keep up the work guys!
Thanks for the nice episode. It cracked me up a lot. :) Sorry to hear the finances are not great though.. hope you'll get some sandwiches from sympathizers after the plea. :)
X-men recommendations really depends on what somebody is looking for, no? I mean if they really want to go back to the source, i would recommend the first couple essential volumes, they are great material for a good price, but may seem a little bit old..
If the person wants to get in from the basics, but still have a modern and flashy feel to it, pick up the first trade of (adjectiveless/new/legacy) vol.2 x-men with lee and claermont, which lies down who every character is, why magneto is so freaking cool and scary, what being a mutant signifies, differing politics on mutants etc. and it has some great hot art (it's jim lee afterall!).
executioner's song was a great cross over too, but if you get only parts of it (like uncanny and (vol.2) x-men, it feels so much bigger, thinking "there is so much more story going on here!". I just recently (about a year or two ago) completed the x-force and x-factor issues that tie in and i was like, haven't we already covered this in the other issue?
Than going at the root of the modernest era, you can pick up e is for extinction. it is great update on characters with a sense of genuine threat, drama, etc.
should i go on now?
Inferno? Man, it's like finding out your favorite movie reviewer knows all the words to High School Musical. I can't believe you didn't mention The Dark Phoenix Saga! Until Pete eats Justin, Peace Out- Stuff Daddy
I do hope you guys review Secret Invasiton 3. It made me really excited for issue 4
