Thank you reviewing astonishing x-men I can sleep now. I thought that the ending was so obivous though. Can somebody help me understand why they were all drooling? I am so excited that warren ellis is taking over the title, but i'm a little worried he'll take longer than Whedon did(cough fell cough). Good for Pete to take a stand against lame comics. I haven't gotten a single countdown count up crisis counting. Everybody I talk to says stay away.

PETE SUX, ALEX WHERES MY BUX

Pete, you mad fool! Your integrity as a reviewer is at stake! You know you can't allow an event of this magnitude to go unreviewed by yourself. Who else will provide the counterpoint to Justin and Alex? You owe it to the world, man!

(And if this works, Alex will owe me some cash!)

Hey what do you guys think about the new issue of Ultimate X men 94, whats up with making Colossus is a MGH junkie. It seems like it would have made a lot more sense to just say that he gets addicted during the process of trying to rescue north star than before. I know this sounds nerdy but in a house with two telepaths and over the course of how many years are they seriously trying to say that no one knew he was abusing something like that. Don’t get me wrong that last page was pretty sweet with all of them jacked up on steroids but come on the concept is kind of weak when you think about how they have developed it so far. I remember even in Kitty’s first appearance that when she is being shown the school by Jean that when she mentions that Colossuse and Wolverine were coming back from a drug bust that involved a street gang using the spinal fluid of some poor mutant.

Pete, I feel your pain. I refused to buy Final Crisis for the exact same reasons, and like you, the collector in me is gnawing away at my sensibilities. (I even refused to buy Marvel1985 for the exact same reasons).

And, I agree, Grant Morrison is getting repetitive, and therefore predictable. I mean, seriously, how many Superheroes is he gonna kill, or pseudokill? All Star Superman, Batman R.I.P., Final Crisis... not to mention his ever growing esoteric references to Golden Age and Silver Age storylines and characters.

With that said, I'm probably gonna wind up buying Final Crisis in trade.

    • Bombardem wrote on May 30, 3:28 pm

All hail Pete for refusing to give in to the mediocrity of DC. I downloaded FC#1 and have to say it was a load of crap. Morrison completely ignores Countdown and Death of the New Gods, and all of the supposed super beings seem utterly ignorant that those two events ever occurred. Sorry, but when you spend 2 or 3 years preparing for this "Final Crisis" and even do a year long 50+ issue series called Countdown to Final Crisis, then Final Crisis should be in tight continuity, not ignore it. DC has really shit all over their customers with this one, but then considering their customers bough Countdown I guess they figure they'll buy anything. Pete, believe me, you can completely ignore this book and begin reading with #2 if you have to, and not miss a thing. For those of you who keep saying "Well its Morrison, he always starts off slow" well take in mind this is ONLY 7 issues, there should be NO starting slow, no warming up. This isnt a 52 issue epic.

Project Rooftop is horrible. I completely fail to understand why you guys keep giving them press. I've gone through their site and NOT ONE re-design is interesting, or even well drawn. They look like a bunch of down-syndrome fashion designers were turned loose with a box of crayons.

    • metamorphic wrote on May 30, 3:50 pm

Ah, Bombardem! You know it was hardly a load of crap! Nor does aying it is make it so. There is criticism to be made, for sure, but to claim it was a load of crap is a pretty big stretch! of course, to each their own!

    • Bombardem wrote on May 30, 4:31 pm

Sorry, I've re-read it and there was definitely an odor of feces coming off the pages...DC may tell you its candy, and their fans may fall for it being so used to that smell, but us Marvel fans are more discriminating, and we garden...

    • metamorphic wrote on May 30, 4:40 pm

An odor of feces? Was it sitting on top of Secret Inavsion #2?

I kid! I kid! Ah, it's good to laugh again!

    • Andy (guest) wrote on May 30, 10:18 pm

I believe you have already made that crayon box crack before. Come on get new material. You call that mocking. My cat can do better than that, and he only talks to ME!

Just because you don't like something (I know this next part is going to come as a shocker) doesn't mean other people can't enjoy it. I like Project Rooftop and I think some cool stuff has been on that site.

    • Bombardem wrote on June 1, 5:28 pm

      http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/projectrooftop/IMIU/im_danielkrall.jpg
now if thats an example I can only say thank god Marvel has better taste in artists.

    • Bombardem wrote on May 30, 3:30 pm

Oh yeah, the new site design sucks ass.

    • cubsmodano wrote on May 30, 3:39 pm

Reading DC events is like television on a honeymoon--unnecessary.

    • Badabash (guest) wrote on May 30, 3:52 pm

Pete. Stick to your guns. Your integrity is on the line!

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote on May 30, 5:00 pm

So if your not gonna review it Pete, then there is no reason for you to be on a show. Yes Countdown sucked ass, but there is no reason to act like a fucking child. I read it, and yes it wasnt the greatest ever, but I liked it. The art was fantastic and I think this will be much better then Infinite Crisis. So Pete if you not gonna review, then get the fuck off of my computer screen you big, fat, nerdy child.

Astonishing X-Men was fantastic as well, shame most of this stories was spoiled during other X Titles. Still this was one of the best X-Men run in ages! I wish Whedon would stay on it...or start writing Spider-Man someday.

Oh and this contest thing is stupid, if you wanna sponser it then dont take up show time when you could be reviewing other comics. At least Ifanboy does the promo's early to talk about books.

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote on May 30, 5:02 pm

Sorry for double post, but Bom is right. This layout sucks, go back to the old one.

    • Bombardem wrote on May 30, 5:50 pm

      Let me bask a moment..."Bom is right"...ahhh

    • Rubato wrote on May 30, 9:15 pm

Bombardem, youre a very weird and angry person. So many unresolved issues, really.

And Pete should definitely read Final Crisis, i mean, we all agree that countdown sucked, and i totally understand his position on the matter (because countdown sucked THAT bad), but final crisis is definitely something worth picking up. Besides, its Morrison, he knows what he's doing. You can either like or dislike his style, but no one can say he's a bad writer.

And yes, he did retcon a lot of stuff in the very first final crisis and ignored some continuity, but come on, countdown sucked bigtime, DotNG sucked too, and this whole thing is based on a concept thats Morrison's. If DC editorial did a bad job at putting it together then he's more than qualified to correct it however he feels like.

Personally, i think, if you wanna ignore countdown, go ahead, just read DC universe 0 and you'll be just fine, but dont stop reading final crisis.

O and btw? secret invasion is gonna be as good/bad as every other marvel event, where everything changes forever for all heroes for all time, except it doesnt. Final Crisis is gonna rock.

    • Dean Trippe (guest) wrote on May 30, 10:34 pm

I loved Final Crisis to pieces, and between that and All-Star Superman and Batman, I had an excellent day of reading great comics. Whoo, Grant Morrison. My only complaint is the art on RIP.

The new site design is super cool. Oh and Project: Rooftop kicks ass. [Admitted bias here.]

    • Bombardem wrote on May 30, 10:56 pm

Wow, I want some of the shit your smoking...

    • Lusvell (guest) wrote on May 30, 11:28 pm

Dude, are you gonna enter that contest? I've seen your art, it's stylish and creative, you should go for it.

    • deantrippe wrote on May 30, 11:50 pm

well thanks, and yeah i will, as i usually do for P:R contests, despite my ineligibility (p:r is my site). i just finished my superman entry.

    • Lusvell (guest) wrote on May 31, 4:02 am

hahaha, sorry dude, dont really keep up with who's who on the web.

    • stuffdaddy wrote on May 31, 1:51 am

I'm with Pete, which kind of scares me. DC! Please re-learn to tell real stories... real stories that don't involve the word "Crisis!" You have lost the right to ever have another crisis... zzzzzzzzz

    • AgentBurns wrote on May 31, 10:07 am

Pete is right, Final Crisis Sucks!!! I am spiritually with Pete!

However, Pete talked about the "responsibility to talk about things we believe in", but, being a comic book review, you also have a responsibility to review comics...How else am I going to know that a comic sucks?

P.S. Remember all the crappy cross-overs in the early nineties that led to the big comic bust and crippled the industry in a way it still hasn't recovered from? Didio doesn't.

P.S.S. I won't be buying Final Crisis, based upon the crappy first issue.

    • i_use_tp wrote on May 31, 1:18 pm

I think Final Crisis has set the ground work for some very big stuff that's going to happen in the DCU. If you look at past/current major events they all seemed to have a big-blockbuster first issue. Then it kind of died down. (Infinite Crisis & Secret Invasion) Maybe using the first issue to set up some stuff is a better way to go about these big events. I think Civil War had a "slow" start, but was amazing. I really enjoyed the first issue of Final Crisis and will continue to be on bored.

    • Bombardem wrote on May 31, 2:52 pm

Gotta love that freudian slip there at the end...

    • timbre68 (guest) wrote on May 31, 3:06 pm

Go! Pete! Go! Don't read that shite. That in itself is a review of the comic!

      To paraphrase a great american;

      Pete's a Dick! He's a reckless, arrogant, stupid dick.
And Alex and Justin are pussies.
      And DC is an asshole.
Pussies don't like dicks, because pussies get fucked by dicks.
But dicks also fuck assholes: assholes that just want to shit on everything.
Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way.
But the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls.
The problem with dicks is: they fuck too much or fuck when it isn't appropriate -
and it takes a pussy to show them that.
But sometimes, pussies can be so full of shit that they become assholes themselves...
because pussies are an inch and half away from ass holes.
I don't know much about this crazy, crazy world, but I do know this:
If you don't let us fuck this asshole, we're going to have our dicks and pussies all covered in shit!

I've been following you guys over at Newsarama and I think you guys are great. I'm always entertained by the Stack.

    Final Crisis #1, Giant-Sized Astonishing X-Men #1, and P:R Contest

In this episode of The Stack we look at Final Crisis #1. Alex and Justin say there's no way they're going to miss this huge DC Event. Pete makes it clear that he's still feeling salty about the story leading into Final Crisis and is determined not to lose his special "bet" with Alex concerning Final Crisis. Watch the episode and see what the "bet" is. Next up it's the long-awaited Giant-Sized Astonishing X-Men #1 by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday. Alex is ecstatic about the return of one of his favorite writers. Pete pokes fun at Alex's obsession with Whedon, and everyone says to pick it up.

Finishing off, it's the best contest of the summer! Pulpsecret and Project Rooftop are teaming up to bring you the contest of the summer in honor the 70th Anniversary of the first appearance on Superman in Action Comics #1. Have you ever looked at Superman and thought you can make him look better? Well, now is your chance. Be sure to visit ProjectRooftop.com to get all the great details on...
