I enjoy Justin's sound effects. But yeah the art of 1985 is meh.

    • Stuffdaddy (guest) wrote on May 26, 10:19 am

Another funny, funny and informative show. Yet I can't help think that if someone left three machetes on the table and turned off the lights, it would all end horribly. Maybe it's that wonderful tension that makes it work... Remember, it's wrong to kill.... and get caught.

    • Nerdyhero4hire wrote on May 26, 10:21 am

I think, even though it's a TV show, Reaper would make an interesting comic. Especially if done with that tongue-in-cheek humor that makes Army of Darkness great.

    • Fonlon wrote on May 26, 10:42 am

Brothers in Arms was a lame video game that they're turning into a lame comic. Does anybody else agree that the costumes of marvel in 80 were the best.

    • tirpen wrote on May 26, 10:45 am

I still think The Matrix could make a kick-ass comic, despite the disapointment that was Reloaded.

    • Stuffdaddy (guest) wrote on May 26, 11:16 am

Honestly, Help me out here! I cannot think of one TV/Movie that would be better as a comic. I think the forms are so much more limiting than comics are, and it would make the comic boring.

Has there ever been a good Movie to Comic translation? The Maxx is the best comic to Animation translation... that's the closest I can come to even try to answer.

Things like the Matrix and Unbreakable are already based on comics and they gain nothing by going back into the comic dimension from which they were inspired.

    • grandmasterwook wrote on May 27, 3:43 am

Unbreakable wasn't based on a comic and neither was the Matrix. Apparently the matrix was originally going to be done as a comic but then written into a film.

And unbreakable was inspired by the world of comics. It has never been made into a comic.

    • Bombardem wrote on May 27, 3:55 am

You need to look into Dark Horse Comics I guess, they've made the whole licensing of films to comics a successful business for almost 30 years. They have taken all sorts of films and expanded the stories and universes into whole new areas. Star Wars, Aliens, Terminator, Indiana Jones, Predator, and Buffy just to name a few that are really exceptional.

    • imaginary dave wrote on May 30, 2:34 pm

i think that was what stuffdaddy said!

    • hi123 (guest) wrote on May 26, 11:19 am

1985 looks really good im going to buy it good show guys

    • stuffdaddy wrote on May 26, 11:19 am

Plus, shouldn't the translation be something that works better in comics than it does in real life? Simpsons comics are fun! The Heroes comic was trash. I say give Frank Miller "Golden Girls" and see what happens!

    • Jawshoowah (guest) wrote on May 26, 1:58 pm

I think I would get an Indiana Jones comic.

    • Bombardem wrote on May 26, 2:58 pm

There are lost of Indiana Jones comics by Dark Horse, they've been putting them out for like 20 years or more. They're really good too.

    • Boostergoldvsdoctor who wrote on May 26, 3:15 pm

Make new Indiana Jones comics and even Family Guy would be cool.

    • Bombardem wrote on May 26, 3:16 pm

Who dropped the load on Justins chest, or was it a group effort?
Whats the deal with Millar's Fantastic Four and giant robots? I was never really on board with the goofy art style they were using, and now the stories have just been stupid for several issues. It's also been completely out of the MCU continuity. I hate to see yet another failed re-imagination of the FF.
I agree Unbreakable was a story that deserved continuation of some kind. I read many years ago it was supposed to be a trilogy of films, m.knight just couldnt sell the sequels. Maybe someone could talk him into doing a series for Virgin comics. They seem to have all the Indian creators.
Dexter would be really easy to adapt to a comic book form. Though I dont know how many watchers of the show would be comic fans. I love the show though.
Speaking of Showtime shows, how about Weeds? That could be a highly entertaining comic book, though finding a publisher might be problematic.

3 men of the Stack very good show you are a ----book

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote on May 26, 7:42 pm

I'm not sure why Spoiler had to come back...She was only around for about two years as Spoiler and Robin. Then she was brutally killed, and even if it wasnt her that Black Mask killed, I feel bad for the girl who he did killed, cause she seemed to know alot about Batman and such as she was tortured.

1985 looked okay, I wasnt really excited for it, the idea of comic characters going into our world isnt used as much lately. I'll give it a try and see how this fairs. FF has been pretty medicore since Miller/Hitch joined the title. I have yet to see why these two are going to 'bring the Family back to the spotlight'. Also, Spider-Man #560 was really good, Paperdoll isnt the best villian ever, but she's much better then Menace or Freak.

I'm just waiting for Venom to show up cause in terms of BND continuity, he shouldnt exsist. If 20 years of comics have been wiped out then Venom and the symboites should not be around. But what a surprise, they're coming in the summer event for BND and still around the Marvel U....god damn you Joe Q.

I was up all night partyin' and I just came from another great Memorial day party. I'm about to head out to yet another for the tail end of the festivities. Just wanted to post thoughts on the movies to comics topic.

I'm a fan of the movies of Robert Rodriguez and would love to see El Mariachi, and The Gecko Bros. (prequels based on Quentin Tarantino and George Clooney's characters in From Dusk Till' Dawn).
Maybe also Tarantino's character of The Bride from Kill Bill.
I'd also love to see more View Askewniverse comics from Kevin Smith. Love the ones that he and co. did in those books.
      I'm outta' here!!!
      More partyin' to do!!!!!

Pete, thanks for continuing to crap on ASM. No matter how many people tell me it's good, I can't get into it after OMD.

    • Doorman wrote on May 26, 10:48 pm

Unbreakable and Dexter both really good choices for Movie/TV to comic adaptation.

    • rodofo (guest) wrote on May 27, 1:09 am

Hancock, or what about men in black, that be cool

    • mrmister wrote on May 27, 7:06 am

Totally agree about Dexter. One of my favorite shows on TV, can't wait for Season Three. In the 2nd season they actually make some overt super hero references.

    • CageMouthVerdict wrote on May 27, 8:08 am

'The Shinning' would make for a good graphic Novel.
There a big chunks of days where that film doesn't cover and or explained. It could even go more into the upkeep of the 'overlook hotel' I think a comic book that covered some of the weird stuff that goes on there, that WASNT IN THE BOOK OR MOVIE would be nice to see.

      make it happen pulp.

      make it happen!!!!

    • DieselDave (guest) wrote on May 27, 11:08 am

Was watching a rerun of "Cash Cab" this morning and who do you think climbed into the cab? Justine!! Dude, you do a great job on your show but you need to spend a little more time in real life. You were kicked out of the cab for not knowing Uzo is the national drink of Greece! Love "the stack" keep up the good work.

    • Andy (guest) wrote on May 27, 11:12 am

      Well Greece is the Word.

    • Bombardem wrote on May 27, 2:21 pm

lol@justine, well that explains the mess on her/his sweater

    • deadenderic wrote on May 27, 4:01 pm

I saw that too. Its my favorite game show. Too bad Justin got kick off. He looked a little stoned, maybe thats why he lost.

    • 2184pro wrote on May 27, 11:24 am

A movie to adapt to comics would be "Big Trouble in Little China." It could be called BT in LC--The Further Adventures of Jack Burton.

Also, from TV, "Chuck." It's witty and action-based.

    • ckellough wrote on May 27, 1:33 pm

The word you were looking for, Alex, is "fumetti". Italian word, not Japanese.
I'm old enough to remember when they had fumetti versions of movie adaptations like Star Wars, Close Encounters, etc.
A dormant genre that could use a revival in the digital age.

    • Alexander Zalben (guest) wrote on May 27, 7:32 pm

      Yes! Thank you.

    • Alexander (guest) wrote on May 27, 5:24 pm

      Movie to Comic?

"The Man from earth"! Best movie of 2007, I could SOO see that as a comic.. telling John's story from the start all the way up to him telling his friends..
Hell.. it could actually fit in the DCU.. make that guy he meet be Vandal Savage and your set!

    • Richard Kimber (guest) wrote on May 28, 2:46 pm

Dexter would make an excellent graphic novel, but as the tv series is based on a novel, I don't think it counts.

    • imaginary dave wrote on May 30, 2:35 pm

thanks for answering my question- i almost choked on my pasta when I heard my name. I'm made up!

Robin #174, Dead She Said #1, 1985, Speed Round, and Viewer Mailbag

Up first it's a review of Robin #174. Alex lets a clever "spoiler" slip. Watch and see what it is. Pete and Justin like the story, but disagree with the use of the "spoiler". Next it's a review of Dead She Said #1. Pete loves this one. Check it out and see why. Then it's a review of the long awaited 1985 written by Mark Millar. The guys really felt the anticipation on this title and feel like it really paid off. See why Alex thinks 1985 showcases Marvel characters in a rich way. During the Speed Round the guys review Damned: Prodigal Sons #2, Fantastic Four #557, Birds of Prey #118, Brothers in Arms #1, and Amazing Spider-Man #560. Finishing up it's Viewer Mailbag! Imaginary Dave from the forums asks the guys, "What films do you think would make great comics?" See what Alex, Justin, and Pete answered.
