Great show guys, with so many comic book movies coming out I was hoping the stack would do a summer movie special.
And Alex is right, THE DARK KNIGHT will be the BIGGEST and BEST movie this summer.

I still haven't seen Iron Man, but everything I've heard is good and I'm looking forward to it. Sorry to hear Speed Racer is kind of lame but I'll probably check it out just for the racing stuff.

But without a doubt the movie I'm looking forward to most this summer is The Dark Knight! The trailers really give it this sense of tension and menace - which is exactly what a movie with the Joker should feel like.

Hellboy 2 is going to be the most underrated film this summer. The first one was so good, and so many people decided not to watch it. Mignola and Del Toro is working on this film, it will be good! Whether it's a new story or not, Ron Pearlman as Hellboy is the best casting choice in comic film history.

The less said about Speed Racer and Hancock. One sucks already, and the other will have a lamer rap then what Alex gave us. Plus The Dark Knight, how is this not going to be awesome? No way will this movie suck, we all know it will be the best comic book film since....well Iron Man really.

The studios know theres an audience out there for comic based movies and they're going to keep making them until we stop going. I think that because of the rabid fanboys and fangirls picking apart these superhero movies, the studios are trying to make the best superhero movies they can, or face a nerd backlash. Thats why they didn't make very many after the Shumacher Batmans. Basically people going to see movies like Iron Man ensures that there will be more movies like that in the future.

I hope I'm wrong about Hulk, but my dislike for Ed Norton really jades my opinion of this films success. As for the fights, after seeing Matrix 2 dozens of times no other fight scene will ever impress me again.

Hancock will be great fun, but its definitely a redemption story, from what I've seen in the trailers. I'm actually kind of glad its not purely a comedy. It looks like its going to deal realistically with how someone with superman-like powers would be treated by the media, and how that might go to their head. This is just an allegory for how celebrities are treated, ala Paris Hilton.

I agree, Hellboy will be the surprise hit. I think the trailers look freakin amazing. If the story is half as good as the CGI and dialog I've seen then we are in for something amazing.

I dont know how many of you were around when The Crow was being made, but Dar Knight feels the same way, at least to me. I'm still in shock over Brandon Lee's death, even after more than a decade. I feel the same way about Heath Ledger, probably even more strongly since I've seen so many of his films. The similarities between the Crow and Joker are eerie. I almost dont want to see this film because I know I'll be uncomfortable seeing Heath.

Oh, and Armageddon is the greatest action film ever made. I dont know if Alex was joking or not, but no matter how many times I watch it there are at least a dozen scenes where I tear up, or cheer out loud, or both.

Do you even have to ask if Dark Knight is going to make more money than Iron Man come on it is going to be HUGE.

    • KryptonianLowlife wrote on May 16, 7:20 pm

There is no doubt in my mind Dark Knight is going to be the biggest movie this summer.

    • Tom Hehir wrote on May 16, 7:23 pm

Hellboy was boring, it had some great bits, but overall was only so so.

    • KryptonianLowlife wrote on May 16, 7:25 pm

I've heard from a lot of people, that they are going to be kind of uneasy watching Heath Ledger's portrayal of such a dark version of the Joker. Personally, I won't be creeped out, a little on the weepy side, to see such an amazing performance. I think if anything this movie is going to prove just how great Heath Ledger was as an actor, it's a celebration of his talent, and I can't wait to see it over, and over.

You know what. I think when you talk about Speed Racer you have to constantly remind yourself that this is a family/kid friendly film based on a 60's cartoon show about racing where the cars have special abilities. That said, it's cheesey, corny, the plot isn't really the main focus, but it moves the movies along and in my personal opinion I had a lot of fun watching it in theaters. I felt the plot had some nice social undertones of sports and corporation sponsorship which might have been a lil too over the head for the audience it's going for, but it was still appreciated by me. As a fan of the source material also I felt that it did it justice and didn't water down the fun. It might be a bit on the long side standing a lil over 2 hours, but I couldn't think of 1 scene I'd cut...unless you lose the commentary I mentioned cause that is pretty much the bulk of the story.

I think Batman will do $150 mill. opening weekend.
And I liked Hellboy. It was interesting and I liked the Cthulhu mythos like monsters. Not everything has be smashed every 2 seconds for it to be good.

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote on May 17, 12:08 am

I dont know why people thought the first Hellboy was boring. It had a lot of funny bits and action scenes to get it threw the two hours. I enjoyed it because not only was it pretty spot on protrails of the chracters, but they squeezed in many stories from the comics. We see some Wake the Devil, Right Hand of Doom, and even the short story Pamcakes.

It was a little stupid that is wasn't like the comics, like adding in a lame human character to 'look after' Hellboy...wasnt Hellboy an honorary human in the comics? Still I liked it, it was funny and had some good fight scenes. The sequal should be no different, I hope there is a lot of more funny bits from Pearlman when he's fighting.

    • Bombardem wrote in reply on May 17, 5:41 am

I think the problem with the first Hellboy was the pacing was odd. There were some really slow parts that didnt mesh well with the story, and seemed to slow things down even more. The new film looks almost manic in comparison. Plus they are really expanding the roles of his supporting characters. They should have waited til august to release this though, and given Dark Knight more space, since you know its going to be popular for a few weeks. August and September on the other hand are just dead for releases, I mean theres like nothing worth mentioning for two or three full months unless they move something up.

      Great Episode guys! =)

Iron Man was amazing, but the Dark Knight is gonna make HISTORY!

This has been a great year for comic book movies =)

    • jmsnyder wrote on May 17, 3:08 pm

Alex : Yes Hellboy was Boring!

Justin: It seems as though the Puppet Revolution will be televised.

Pete: Not much to add as usual.

Iron Man may have been the apex of my life. Truly, comic fans live in blessed times.

I feel THE Closer to "The Dark Knight" release the Media is going to put a really shitty spin with re viewing it . Like they want to Keep reminding people of "the haunting death and blah blah blah". "IS THERE A SECRET MESSAGE IN THE END. DID HE KNOW WE WAS GOING TO DIE? WAS HE TRYING TO WARN US OF GAMBILLING WITH SLEEPING PILLS?!".. Its going to end up looking alot like "THE LOVE OF BRITNEY AND K FED FOR COMICS".. "THE RED HEADED STEPCHILD", "a mayor in a midnight rest stop".. laughible at best... WHICH SUCKS!!!! because the JOCKER has been with FOREVER!!!!!! you can hardly talk 'batman' with out 'JOCKER' slipping through your teeth.

The Movie is going to be great. Better then IronMan? I don't think so. IronMan has "woop Woop". Iron man kinda looks like a beautiful CAR... Tony Stark is a pimp. and Bruce kinda is.. but hes got mommy/daddy issues. and a weird fetish with bats.

I have yet to see a BATMAN movie where the costume is done RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!! and that kinda bothers me. why cant batman wear the kick ass Grey outsite?!....

babble babble babble. low level bickering.

I dont think the world is going to be dealing with "comic burn out" infact i think the world is going to want more.

    • Adny (guest) wrote in reply on May 18, 10:27 am

Well I hope the media won't be talking about the Jocker. Thats a totally different villain...

SPEED RACER is one of the best movies of this year. However, it may be that the themes and plot action are too innocent to garner proper acclaim from the general audience. This is a movie that delivers a great message, a positive message about the importance of imagination, the importance of being an artist, and the little-guys sticking together against the evil corporations. It's visually beautiful, it's cute, and the fact that y'all panned it makes me think you were too busy trying to be in with the cool crowd and you missed the authentic quality that this movie offers. Check your smart mouth at the door, stop automatically confirming the opinions of others, and just watch the movie for what it is. Wholesome, positive, good for kids in particular, and everyone in general.

      What what!?
