Wait...are you guys reviewing the old Beyond! Marvel comic or something else?

    • Mory Buckman (guest) wrote on May 5, 1:41 pm

When you were reviewing the upcoming "Beyond" issue, you accidentally showed the cover of Marvel's "Beyond!" miniseries from a few years back! I don't know what this series is you're talking about, but I do know the two series are totally unrelated.

    • plasticbugs wrote in reply on May 5, 5:13 pm

Yes, you're right. The editor goofed and put in the wrong image. Sorry about that.

Also thank you guys for answering my question!

    • Andrew (guest) wrote on May 5, 1:42 pm

I love the show, but why don't you let Pete finish speaking? He seems to get cut off almost every episode...I mean, I don't agree with most of what he says, but I still think he should be afforded the time to say it.

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote on May 5, 1:57 pm

I pick up anything Alex Ross does, so this should be good to me whether it's not his best....But yeah it's most likely not going to be remembered as his greatest story done. DCU was okay, its a good starting point for anyone going into the DC Universe; plus seeing Barry Allen coming back will be a risky decision in the long run. It looks like Pete as a red ponytail in your Beyond review btw. :)

Let's face it, Comic Book Guy will always, ALWAYS be used as what a comic fan is like. Most of us, not all, are nerdy teens/adults who get frustrated when something is sucky or not tied well in a movie or tv show. I mean look at the people here who are negative about this show, jesus if you dont look like Comic Book Guy then you have some problems.

    • Andyman Messiah (guest) wrote on May 5, 2:01 pm

Watching this video I have come to the conclusion that Pete is correct. In fact, there are not enough words to emphasize the amount of correctness the man in the t-shirt possesses. Stay correct, Pete. You rock.

    • ANARCHcorp (guest) wrote on May 5, 2:06 pm

Yeah the Beyond! thing kinda threw me off a bit but..everybody makes mistakes.

Anyway. I'm a psychologist I wear nice clothes to work, I'm..a little overweight and I love comic books. more often than never because of how negative the stereotype of comic book fans in the media is when somebody finds out that I'm a comic book fan not only do they get a bit anxious but it seems like "comic book fan" negates all the other roles I play in this society.

and just this once..I do blame the media.

    • Bombardem wrote on May 5, 2:37 pm

I think Kevin Smith had realistic comic book fans in his films, particularly Mallrats. There is such a wide variety of geekdom involved with comics that there really is no portrayal thats too over the top. Just stand in line at a comic con for an hour or two, and you will meet every facet of the community from the uber geek with his binders full of collector cards to the uber cool tattooed hipster artist wanna-be.

Why do I have the feeling either you guys are spoofing us about Beyond!, or your producer was spoofing you, or you made a huge colossal fuck-up? I dont see any new Beyond! series listed or mentioned anywhere I looked. My guess is someone was downloading pirate scans of last weeks new comics, and mistook this back issue for a new release, and wrote it into the script...

I wish you'd have shown that Ex-Machina cover, its really one of the cooler covers in a while.

I dont know which is worse(or better), when they 'like' let Pete talk on and on and make no point, or when they interupt him half way through not making his point. Keep doing it though, we'll figure it out eventually.

    • Bombardem wrote on May 5, 2:50 pm

I dont think there is any invalid portrayal of comic book fans. All you have to do is stand in line at a comic con for an hour or two (especially at the front of the line) and you'll see every facet of the community in all its glory. From the uber geek with their binder full of collector cards, to the tattooed super cool artist wanna-be guy. I think Kevin Smith probably got it right on the money in his films though.

Beyond! Colossal screw-up, or secret series no one else in the world has seen? My theory, Alex was pirating scans of last weeks releases, and mistook this back issue for a new release, then passed it on to the others for review. Oopsie..

You should have shown that Ex-Machina cover, its really cool.

*I wrote more but this crappy blog software lost my first posting....again

Guys, the feed doesn't seem to be working in iTunes, it hasn't worked for the past two shows, this episode and the surrogates episode.

    • beastboyjoe (guest) wrote on May 5, 3:24 pm

I actually happen to like Pete's habit of wearing superhero shirts. Do you guys know what a statement is? Do you know how that works? Pete's a proud comic geek, and I say rock on.

    • Boostergoldvsdoctor who wrote on May 5, 4:04 pm

Does anyone think it would be cool if Booster gold teamed up with Doctor Who aka: the Doctor and started fighting against the Daleks and Supernova and then Booster would become the Doctors new assistant.

Can someone PLEASE FIX THIS DAMN PROBLEM!!!!???
Jesus! How many times do I have to type a pretty good comment for this show, and then it's ruined cause your damn software wont post it!? I'm sure it'll post this rant and not my comments about the actual show.

EITHER FIX THE PROBLEM, POST MY COMMENT, OR JUST FUCKING STOP USING THIS METHOD IDIOTS!

Has anyone noticed what Venom looks now there was a little glimpse of him of him on the latest stack.

    • metamorphic wrote on May 5, 4:53 pm

First: How can you not dig DCU 0? It TOTALLY whets the appetite for what's next! And for fifty cents! Grrr! Feel my fanboy outrage as I gripe into the blogosphere!

Which brings me to comic reader portrayals. While I agree that comic fans run the gamut, I think there is a certain bias toward stereotypes simply beacuse there are still so many people who don't recognize the medium as a legitimate adult pastime. People think comics, like Trix, are for kids and so adults who really love comics must be socially maladjusted. I do however think that's changing thanks in part to comic book movies etc.

And guys? You can't claim to be too cool when one of your promos is a riff off of West Side Story. (Ha! That's for your review of DCU 0! Dang kids!)

    • Boostergoldvsdoctor who wrote in reply on May 5, 4:59 pm

Do you like my doctor who and booster gold comic idea.

Beyond? Didn't this come out a couple years ago? I saw the trade on the shelf at the local comic shop. Is this a different Beyond you're talking about or are you just reviewing something old?

    • Alexander Zalben (guest) wrote in reply on May 5, 9:28 pm

Sigh. The picture is completely wrong. It's actually a series from Virgin Comics by Ron Marz, that's coming out in about a month.

    • Bombardem wrote in reply on May 6, 1:04 am

After trying to actually find ANYTHING out about this book, I can see how this happened, sorta.

Check out the forums for more discussion about this.

I LOVE YOUR SHOW GUYS YOU GUYS ARE COOL

    • spikevalrntine wrote on May 6, 12:45 am

The only person that have portrayed (and based) his stuff accurately in comic book geeks I think is Kevin Smith.

    • grandmasterwook wrote on May 6, 3:41 am

you'll always get stereotypes in any tv show, due to the studios wanting characters to be instantly recognisable.

I'm over 2 metres tall well built with long hair and tatoos, so i dont really fit into the stereotype. Yet i am one of the geekiest people around. I even play role playing games twice a week. /shiver

Actually that last bit felt like i was filling in a lonely hearts ad.... i feel dirty=)

But yeah, there will always be stereotypes on tv and movies. regardless of how much we protest. Complaining about it online probably makes us seem even more like the stereotype.

    • Boostergoldvsdoctor who wrote in reply on May 6, 10:21 am

Doesanyone like my Boostergold and Doctor who idea: Doctor who and boostergold fighting off the daleks and supernova please reply

    • Boostergoldvsdoctor who wrote on May 6, 10:27 am

The stack rocks and if you agree shout loud and read comics until you die but read comic books with lots of action and a good story line that is easy to follow and that is why my local comic book shop have booster gold on order for me (the omacs are back).

    • Boostergoldvsdoctor who wrote on May 6, 10:34 am

I think there should be a DC Universe game like Marvel ultimate alliance because you could make so many cool teams or mix Dc with Marvel that would be cool too.

    • Boostergoldvsdoctor who wrote on May 6, 10:41 am

Thanks for creating the Stack it rocks but why dont people ever talk about Booster Gold as cool because he is such a cool person and he is back with Blue beetle (2nd) and they are fighting off the Omac and the JLA are falling and becomeing Omac and it is different that they are using Booster and Blue because they were not that popular and hidden a little bit and this shows a different styled story with brilliant fights and cool twists. when you see a superhero turning into an Omac it is a little bit like finding Super Skrull's in Marvel comics.

    • Gothamonthewall wrote on May 6, 10:15 pm

If someone loves to read and watch movies then they should definitely check out comic books. I never realized how many genres other than super hero books were out there until I started reading different graphic novels and occasionally buying books that I had never heard of before!

    • stevesad (guest) wrote on May 7, 2:20 pm

Not even ONE comment about the Art on Avengers/Invaders !!??
Also, Alex Ross isnt the only guy involved in the writing...A more thorough review wouldve been nice!

    • Reltib (guest) wrote on May 12, 7:28 pm

2 bits is actually 25 cents, Alex. Nitpicky enough for you?

And just because Justin can't grow a beard isn't a reason for him to poke fun. I challenge you to grow a beard, Justin. Great answers to the question. Chuck is so not a geek based on his ability to woo any woman he shares screen time with.

    • Alex Zalben (guest) wrote in reply on May 12, 10:22 pm

Yeah, I know... I use two bits to describe almost two of anything. It's a character flaw.
