Great show as always guys, however i believe that more marvel titles would be better. great job and keep up the good work!

I would not pick up any of these issues you guys picked. Uncanny X-Men has not been good since Messiah Complex, Fear Agent is something I am not interest in, also I will agree with Pete (OMG!!) that I would put the Power Pack comic on fire. Why would anyone age 13+ would pick this up? It's a kid comic!!!

Once again better comics like Robin or Brave and the Bold is sidelined for a three second review on the Speed Round. Plus why would losing costumes and spandex hurt comics? Indie comics rarely have superheros like Marvel/DC so it wouldnt be a problem for me.

The spandex question is stupid. It's a moot point. Soooo....... does Alex have a New Show? Will Pete light something on fire? Will Alex use hand gestures? I must know.

The way the Mage comics did costumes was awesome... it was still a little cartoony with logo tees but still kept it fairly realistic.

I think costumes work in comics for a few reasons. One they make it easier to know who is who at a distance. And Two they do so much that is just physically impossible and they would look even more out of place if they were dressed in normal clothes.

Every time I see superheroes in normal clothes they always have less mussels because it would look really ugly. Some people will like the realism and some will not.

Ho boy, I was so scared that Alex was leaving to have his own show. I mean, sure I'd watch it, but c'mon.

We've seen lots of people both in and out of costumes, but I think Justin is right in that we need the iconography; The Flash is more than just a lightning bolt on a t-shirt, he has to be streamlined, etc.

I put the Fear Agent Trades on my list!
      Great show guys.

Sorry Alex, I dont see you getting your own show unless Ben Stein dies and they have a driving need for another geeky jew.

Couldn't disagree more with Pete about Power Pack, I'd just let it burn and save my pee for something more deserving.

My problem with spandex, and superhero musculature is they'd have to spend 16 hours a day working out to maintain those bodies. Plus guys like Superman, whats he gonna work out with, mountains? 75 story buildings? The Bowflex hasnt been designed with power rod® technology for them yet, I dont care what Chuck Norris says.

spandex is not necessary for one reason, four words, Grant Morrison New X-men. the black leather made the x-men cooler than ever. I wish they'd loose the spandex.

Alex worships a fat Jesus, I thought he was Jewish. Thats not kosher.
I think that plenty of titles don't do the spandex thing and it works. But I think they do spandex because it sets them apart visually from the 'normal people' and it looks good on paper.
Besides if i had super powers and a body like superman that I'd wear spandex 24 7. Any body that made fun of me would get a dose of heat vision.

Good news everyone! "Who Wants to Eat a Comic?" isn't cancelled; it's just being re-tooled with Pat Sajak as the new host. The new approach is being described as a combination of "Survivor" and "The Bachelor." It is also being described as "bloody awful."

Aaaaaaand with that bit of madness out of my system, I think spandex in superhero comics is kind of an ingrained part of the genre. It adds to the fantasy element and so I think eliminating all costumes would actually take away from the overall feel of a superhero book.

you gotta let Pete talk more!

The only reason that no body went to NYCC was because tickets cost 40-45 bucks at the door (one day). I live in the NY so traveling wasnt an issue. I would have loved to go, Im sure I would have even brought a friend if tickets werent more than 15 dollars...Or maybe im just cheap

    • Bombardem wrote in reply on April 25, 6:45 pm

Boy I thought Seattle's was bad at $20
      http://www.emeraldcitycomicon.com/tickets.php
I'm used to paying $5 at the most for these things.

    • RichieCunningham (guest) wrote in reply on April 26, 2:24 am

Not to mention that the main reason I would go is to spend money on shit that I cant buy in the stores.

    • Steven J. Vasquez (guest) wrote on April 25, 8:00 pm

I don't think I'd like it if they got rid of the tights. To me, it's a part of the overall iconography of super-hero comics.
To me, it'd be like getting rid of Batman's pointy ears or Wonder Woman's magic lasso.
Besides, I'm still trying to get over the loss of letter's pages in comics!!!!!

    • mickr7an wrote on April 25, 8:43 pm

I've always wanted to see a comic book about heroes that didn't wear costumes. I think it would be pretty cool to see spiderman in the real world... well real-ish. He still has all the spider powers but somehow didn't gain the awesome powers of a seamstress. It would be cool to see Bendis give it a shot.

    • illesrz (guest) wrote in reply on April 27, 6:09 pm

Thanks for all the NY comic con video

      And mickr7an .... watch Heroes ...

    • scott (guest) wrote on April 26, 4:40 am

OH MY GOD. what is with these speed round reviews?

99% of every freaking speed round review consists of them saying the title of the book and saying "I liked it."

      sigh.

Hi, big fan. I just recently got back into comics, and I love watching this show for ideas on new series to check out. I discovered it via my TIVO, and it's great.

A few episodes back you had a roundtable discussion on doing away with individual issues and just producing trades, which turned into a fairly heated discussion between me and my boyfriend (he agreed with Alex). Just wanted to check in and say you guys are a lot of fun. I don't read too many superhero comics, but I have gotten into Blue Beetle based on Alex's suggestion, and Locke & Key as well.

    • grandmasterwook wrote on April 27, 6:51 am

      what???? Spandex?????

hate to say it but superheros wouldn't look right in anything else.

Isnt that part of the iconic figures super heroes are.

Superman in a t-shirt just wouldn't be right.

ANd the spandex works for a lot of the heroes, the more acrobatic, and speedster ones would use it to help be more areodynamic and stuff.

I cant believe i'm sticking up for guys in spandex=)

    • KryptonianLowlife wrote on April 27, 4:44 pm

I guess it's more about what's taking place in the story as far as the characters and the development of the plot, but still I don't think superheroes in like street clothes would be all that interesting to look at. In some stories it may work like in the spider-man back in black story peter was swinging around for a few issues costume-less and I guess I didn't have a problem with it. Ultimatley though, no costumes for an extended period of time may start to be kind of dull. I say screw it, it's a superhero comic spandex comes with the territory.

    • Troy (guest) wrote on April 28, 12:54 am

spandex uniforms keep most superheros classic. (i.e., superman, batman) Superheros without spandex are subject to becoming out dated fashion (i.e. grundge, gambit)

Of course, The Stack needs to always get more famous! :D

Awesome episode as usual. Definitely will check out some of these. Power Pack, not so sure, but I'm intrigued.

Fear Agent #20, Uncanny X-Men #497, and Alex's New Show

In this episode, we've got Power Pack Day One #2 featuring ponies and rainbows! Then we check out Rick Remender's Fear Agent #20 and Uncanny X-Men #497.

In the Speed Round we've got  The Dresden Files #1, Robin #173, The Brave and the Bold #12, The Damned #1 and The Sword #7.

In our viewer mail, Glenn asks us about skintight superhero costumes and whether ditching the spandex would hurt comic books.
