My favorite character costume would have to be SPAWN.
Hes creepy mash up of, living dead meets Spider Man with a really big Dr.Strange cape that chokes people. . and lets got forget the chains. gotta love the chains.

a costume I would revamp. and I use the word REVAMP!!! Robin. Hes Batmans sidekick. Batman slips into the darkness and crazy stuff like that. so wouldn't you think its harder to sidekick with batman in a bright outfit like that? AND give the kid a freaking doodad-belt!!!!

    • Crazy wrote on April 9, 11:38 am

Robin is one redesign that worked. The boy-in-hot-pants thing just didn't work.

Justin is wrong. There has been a ton of redesigns and updates that are great and absolutely necessary.

Old Supergirl >>> New Supergirl: She looks so much younger and more hip for this generation.

Wolverine: every costume redesign just works great. You can't go wrong. Brown n Gold, Blue n Gold, Morrison's Black leather, The modern Blue n Gold, X-force Black n Silver...Just keep em coming.

      I second the Robin Redesign.

The Fantastic Four who now have what looks more like space suits rather than spandex fits the style of the characters perfectly.

X-men updates are all good. Tweaks to the Punisher, Batman, Iron Man, and Antman have all been upgrades

The new Cap fits Bucky so well that it would have just been silly to see him in Steve's old suit

I will say this Marvel does it way better than DC. The Colossal disappointments of Batman Azrael and Superman Blue/Red and Kyle Rayners Green Lantern are so much worst than a thousand Spider-Armors.

      Justin is wrong

Redesign? Hmmmm. Iron Man?!? Can't imagine his costume not getting redesigned every so often. I'm also glad it has changed over time. Someone in need of a redesign... Mad Thinker! Let's start with a haircut, lose the green jumpsuit, and just dress in a suit or something... he fancies himself as 'superior', so why isn't he wearing some nice clothes? No need for spandex, just something to separate him from an auto mechanic or 'average Joe'. Another redesign from the original that was both needed and makes sense within the story would be The Wasp. Thank goodness she's changed from her original getup. Janet having a strong interest in fashion also plays into that within the books. And Justin, are you saying that Luke Cage shouldn't have changed? Let's see you wear a chain belt and tiara for an episode and see if that opinion changes... Another recent one is Thor. At first I wasn't crazy about the chain mail look, but it does make sense and looks better than ye olde costume in my humble opinion. These are just a few thoughts from a sleep-deprived doofus who enjoys the show.

And as for my opinion on the show in general, it's good... but while I don't always agree with Pete's opinions on superhero comics (not a fan of 'angry' characters like Wolverine, Punisher, and Hulk)... he's right about Alex and sex talk... it's just wrong. It would also be nice if you other two lads would actually let Pete finish a review once. True, we often get the vibe of where he is going, but does he have to get interrupted every single review? I like the format, and enjoy each of you for different reasons... but let's keep Justin and especially Alex away from the Red Bull until after the show is taped. ;)

One last thing, I totally miss Casey (sp? my apologies, young lady) and a Comic Book Orange.

    • grandmasterwook wrote on April 11, 12:10 pm

I second that, a comic book orange was awesome.

Alex's description of the FF "feeling very rote" is actaully the reason I stopped reading the FF a long while ago (though I've been trying it again off and on for ages). I really liked Davis/Lobdell for their too-brief three "Heroes Reborn" issues as well as the Waid/Weiringo run. They managed to capture the voices, the dynamic and the energy that I loved about the FF as a youngster. Millar/Hitch are a great creative team... but I haven't been feeling this run so far. Of course, it's still early on so maybe I'll be wrong.

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote on April 9, 1:58 pm

It is weird when it comes to Nova, cause like you guys said...It's well written, and it has great characters, but I always forget to pick the next issue lol

Is this American Splendor a reissue of the original? Or is it a remake made by the original guy? I love this stuff and I hope it's new stuff.

    • michael (guest) wrote on April 9, 5:16 pm

I don't know what would be considered 'the original' but I think it's all new material. It references his current life and fame since the movie and all.

    • pete en espanol wrote on April 9, 1:59 pm

I think the new Blue Beetle costume works.

I prefer the modern Nightwing look than his original outfit.

Darwyn Cooke's Catwoman is the best looking one.

As for Superman, I agree with Pete. He looks silly, but just like Spider-man and his black outfit, he's such an icon that you will always have to go back to his original outfit. No matter how cool it is.

As for Power Girl, I understand the problem people have with it, but I like it. It has a classic look with a sexy touch.
I can handle a big pair of boobs. Maybe one day Alex will too.

    • Moeez wrote on April 9, 4:29 pm

Justin's NOT Italian? The plot thickens.

This episode was full of sex. I approve LOL

But seriously, awesome reviews and very funny. Batman has worked very well for redesigns.

Oh man, didn't know he's started American Splendor again. I was just reading the new Anthology.

    • xxsuperboyxx wrote on April 9, 3:22 pm

yeah normally it just depends on the character. Nightwing, Robin, Superboy, Blue Beetle, and Beast are great examples of Revamps done right. The X-men change costumes every year it seems. Where stupid ones were "Stripper" Sue Strom, Almost everyone's costume in Marvel after the Matrix came out(just cause they wore Black leather doesn't mean the MU has toas well), and the suits for the Dark Knight, i would love to see Booster gold and Iron Fist get some Revamp work done. Booster just looks F'ing Stupid and As funny as it is Iron fist looks like a pimp with downs. He might be the best fighter in the Marvel universe but he still looks like he has a hard time distinguishing between circles and triangles.

    • Clive wrote on April 9, 5:24 pm

I'm not liking the FF right now, despite the great team between Millar and Hitch. I also could not get into American Splendor #1, though it is the only thing I've ever read by Pekar.

Buffy #13 was pretty great. Felt more like the TV series than any of the previous issues. Logan #2 is excellent. Pete definitely should have been reviewing that, not Justin. Angel: After the Fall, I'm just not liking near as much as Buffy.

Alex and Pete are right about redesigns. Again, Justin is wrong.

i have a real big question!!! Why are you guys getting mother f-ing bleeped! i thought u guys could say whatever u wanted online!

    • Bombardem wrote on April 10, 1:26 pm

I'm guessing they get bleeped because they are on TIVO, though really they should upload a different version to them so we dont have to see the childrens version.

    • Guelph (guest) wrote on April 9, 6:43 pm

great show, but does justin really hafta interrupt pete at EVERY opportunity?

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote on April 9, 6:49 pm

In terms of re-designs, I go with anyone in from the Rouges in Flash.
Captain Cold has that stupid heavy coat on and shades, and Mirror Master has that retarded Green/Orange spandex on. Dont get me started on Trickster, Pied Piper, Weather Wizard, Abra-Kadabra, Captain Boomarang, and the infamous The Turtle. I mean they're lame villians to begin with, but who the hell told them they look good in thos outfits?

    • Fonlon wrote on April 10, 12:37 am

The best designed character ever was MODOK!!!!! Jack Kirby was a the best character designer ever. The best redesign was Luke cage from the yellow silk shirt and tiara to the black shirt. Question: do you think that certain characters are in too many different comics (wolverine) and that marvel and DC rely to much on establish characters instead of creating new ones?

    • dirtywhitebrian wrote on April 10, 1:31 am

pulp secret is officially is DOMINATED by shitty marvel books

    • Bombardem wrote on April 10, 2:24 am

      I have a few re-designs I've liked a lot.

The Spider-Man Back in Black costume/armor that Stark gave Peter was great. The perfect synthesis of the two schools of thought, plus it was a tech armor. I hope once Invasion is over they all make friends again, because the whole registration act was a skrull plot, and Pete gets the armor back.

Medieval Spawn was great. I actually special ordered the action figure back in the 90's.

Again from the 90's, the original Thunderbolts. Okay, they sorta cheated on that one and changed their whole identities, but their good-guy costumes were way cooler than their villain costumes, though I really like Baron Zemo's villain costume too.

The worst redesign ever award has to go to Batman, at the end of Knightfall. He gets this horrible armored suit, ala Iron Man.

    • felipo555 wrote on April 10, 9:33 am

the last couple of episodes have gotten a LOT funnier :)
alex has been pretty damn funny in a way that goes beyond simple low-brow. and the reviews are getting very sharp. great stuff!

    • G (guest) wrote on April 10, 10:32 am

Great show guys just one thing...PLEASE NO MORE FF REVIEWS for a while at least OR BUFFY PLEASE!

    • HartyPotter (guest) wrote on April 10, 12:25 pm

Cool. And sometimes redesigns are great.

      bad redesign: Firestar

      good redesign: Astonishing X-Men Cyclops

    • imaginary dave wrote on April 10, 1:09 pm

the painted doll's costume in promethea was cool because it's totally naff, so only a prize nutjob would wear it, so you know he's dangerous.

similarly kick ass's costume because it highlights how totally weedy he is.

      i havent answered the question.

you should all dress as each other next time.

    • Gothamonthewall wrote on April 10, 2:54 pm

American Spledor #1 was a funny one. I love FF, but I agree that this issue was mediocre at best. The splash pages weren't that great and I'm really wondering how they are going to wrap the whole entire story up in the next issue.

    • naimad89 (guest) wrote on April 10, 7:55 pm

i have to say i disagree with you guys on FF #556. Millar and HItch is exactly what this book needed. The story getting better and better by the issue.

    • Casino (guest) wrote on April 10, 9:42 pm

There is NOTHING wrong with Power Girl's costume. It's open because it IS distracting. The fact you bought it up proves that it distracts you.

    • grandmasterwook wrote on April 11, 12:14 pm

The Nightwing outfit is awesome compared with the dodgy old get up, as is Blue Beetle and so many others to even mention. I mean could you imagine Luke cage running around lookin the same as he did originally.

Sorry Justin i hate to say it..... it brings tears to my eyes.... but you are wrong

    • JacktheKnife (guest) wrote on April 11, 9:23 pm

Nightwing. They redesigned his costume and it looks awesome and it has stuck.

      Also Robin.
