Who wanted a review of Supergirl? I need to find him/her and teach them why to NEVER like Supergirl...Seriously, after Wonder Woman, she is the worst written superheroine in comics.

But yes thank you for the DC reviews! I completely forgot about Atom and Shazam...Now there's two more comics to add to good DC titles. For a comic to bring back, I want Plastic Man!!!!! He has been the best with Morrison's JLA and Miller's Dark Knight Strikes Back. He's crazy, hilarious, and overall a character who you dont see has a powerful character...but he can totally kick a big name's ass.

me like dc stack. me like judd winnick.

    • HaroldAllnut wrote on March 31, 3:02 pm

I might have to check out Remender's run on Atom since it just started.

Can't say I agree with Justin's cancellation of BOTH Batman and Detective Comics; I'd personally cancel Superman and Batman, leaving Detective Comics and Action Comics for the two headliners. In terms of bringing series back, I'd like to see someone write a new Loose Cannon mini-series.

Thanks for the DC reviews, fellas.

    • metamorphic wrote on March 31, 3:04 pm

First: a shout out to Justin for his Aquman statement! Damn straight! He's a character who just doesn't seem to get done right for some reason. And he COULD/SHOULD be great.

Next: To answer Alex's question about Winick. I too like his writing...for the most part. But the people who feel he's inconsistenet do have a point. When Judd is on (like GA/BC), his stuff can be great. But he's had some missteps too. My thinking is, what writer HASN'T had a bad story or two? The level of hostility is just weird. And (IMO) unwarranted.

Finally: Characters to cancel or bring back? I agree with TheNextChampion that Plastic Man deserves more time (not the Countdown to Mystery "maybe he's evil" version either). And the Creeper could be back and written a lot more...Creepy. As for cancellations, I say cancel all the spin-offs and tie-ins for a while. (Not necessarily the mini-series) Get the DCU grounded again after Final Crisis and build from there. Of course, that's probably the plan anyway....right?

    • metamorphic wrote in reply on March 31, 3:06 pm

Oops! I meant AQUAMAN! Aquman shouldn't come back.

    • michael (guest) wrote on March 31, 3:15 pm

I also don't know where the Winick hate comes from but I think it started with his last issues on Green Arrow. I also agree with Justin on wanting to see an Aquaman reminiscent of the David run.

nice of review of DC books guys. But no mention of the biggest story of the year??!?? O.o when did you tape this show?

    • Tom Hehir (guest) wrote in reply on March 31, 3:33 pm

Whats the biggest sory of the year...Countdown????

    • RichieCunningham (guest) wrote on March 31, 3:56 pm

    • RichieCunningham (guest) wrote in reply on March 31, 8:21 pm

    • scorp87 wrote on March 31, 4:27 pm

Glad to see some DC reviews. What would I cancel? Definately agree with Alex on canceling Superman/Batman. I don't see the point of it now and, like Alex said, with "Trinity" coming up there's no point in having it around. Are those stories even in continuity?

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote on March 31, 4:39 pm

      I see it's:

      2 votes for Plastic Man
      1 vote for The Creeper

So far we want the C level heroes to come back! :)

    • Bombardem wrote in reply on March 31, 5:10 pm

God, DC reviews...major suckfest. At least review good DC books. C'mon, Supergirl? Super Ho is more like it. She looks like a hooker.

Does Justin stand on a box in the back?

    • Lusvell (guest) wrote in reply on March 31, 6:41 pm

I got the perfect solution: Taking off Marvel's dick off your mouth, that way you can sleep a bit better.

I mean "ohmygodDCsuxandimverymaturelol" is just not cute anymore.

    • Bombardem wrote in reply on March 31, 7:00 pm

      It used to be cute!

C'mon, even TheNextChampion agrees DC sucks for the most part. I mean, if you like men in unitards wearing speedos then maybe its your thing....me not so much.

    • metamorphic wrote in reply on March 31, 9:38 pm

Hey now, Bombardem...just because Marvel guys make their underoos out of unstable molecules doesn't make them any less underoo-ey!

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote in reply on March 31, 9:50 pm

When did I ever say DC sucks? I might have said 'DC has worse titles then Marvel right now.' But I dont agree with your views.

DC is second tier to Marvel right now. But their titles are getting better and so is their writing. I just dont think all of DC sucks...Just 75% of it is garbage.

I love DC's heroes. Superman and Batman are by far my favorite superheroes ever. However, I am finding it hard to find anything worth reading from DC right now, with the exception of All Star Superman. I'm with Pete on Green Lantern. I just don't find it interesting. Same with Blue Beetle... just can't get into it.

I guess what I'm saying is that I would rather see an all Marvel show than an all DC show. Even more than that however, I love seeing you guys review more independent books. I'm reading Hack/Slash and The Sword thanks to you guys and I love them.

      Do more indie stuff.

    • mauro (guest) wrote on March 31, 5:18 pm

Man, I fuckin' love Winick's stuff. I loved the shit out of Barry Ween, and his run on Batman was pretty sweet. And the last issue of Green Arrow and the last issue of The Outsiders before the relaunches have been two of my favorite over the top, action packed, shit talking, emotionally driven finales in a long time. With that said, I think my opinion of him would have been slightly tainted if I had known he was on the Real World when I first started reading his stuff.

    • joseab (guest) wrote on March 31, 5:40 pm

can say that i am a big reader of DC i actually just bought my first DC book last friday ( i picked up Green Lantern i liked it cause i have no clue about any green lanter) Though i am looking to get into more DC books i was thinking of picking up a Superman book but i dont know what by the looks of it "everyone is reading allstar superman" what do you guys think any advice for me?

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote in reply on March 31, 5:44 pm

Well yeah get the first trade for All Star Superman...then find a comic store for the other 4-5(?) issues that are after that.
But John's Superman title is really coming together. His Legion story was down right terrific, making a more modern version for the Legion. Plus next arc....Brainiac!! Sweetness.

    • i_use_tp wrote on March 31, 6:38 pm

Please make each episode Marvel and DC. I don't like it when it's just one. Or make Monday DC, Wednesday Marvel, and Friday Indie. I think people will really love that. Also please insult Pete more often. This episode was light on that.

    • Lusvell (guest) wrote on March 31, 6:38 pm

I agree with Alex, so far Superman/Batman has been completely unnecessary is has some of the most ridiculous storylines since post-Infinite Crisis.

I dont exactly agree with canceling Detective comics, since thats actually the closest thing to a good Batman comic. I dare say, that I have NOT been impressed by Morrison's run on the Batman title at all.

Ignoring Pete's pointless "there's too much space stuff" comment on GL and moving on, I thanks for the reminder on Trial of Shazam, I totally forgot about the last issue.

    • michael (guest) wrote on March 31, 7:48 pm

yes Tom, Countdown is obviously the biggest comic book related story of the year. It will have far reaching consequences for all comic books everywhere! ;P

If you are not joking, please pay attention.

    • deantrippe (guest) wrote on March 31, 8:46 pm

Oh man, guys, you're losing some serious credibility endorsing Judd Winick. Blegh.

I can't read more than a page of that guy's work before putting the book down. I haven't liked anything he's done since Green Lantern. It's not that he never has good ideas, it's just that he never takes them in an interesting or grounded direction. Having an HIV-positive character? Interesting. Not writing ANY of her Titans teammates having even the slightest concern that she hadn't told them about it before going into battle? Unrealistic. Bringing back Jason Todd as a villain? Possibly interesting (despite totally ripping the idea off from Loeb's Hush storyline). Using a convoluted Superboy Prime punches *time?* + coma recovery + Talia's help with Lazarus Pit + Ra's Al Ghul personality influence(?) to accomplish all this? HORRIBLE. OH and hey a superhero WHO'S ALSO THE MAYOR? Haven't seen that one before...

Seriously, the dude basically writes fan fiction. More power to him getting all the work he does and using it to talk about issues he cares about, but as for calling him a great, or even good, writer? No.

    • Alcott_75 wrote on March 31, 9:04 pm

      It's coming!

    • Sage Freehaven (guest) wrote on March 31, 9:34 pm

      Judd Winick?
It's not his writing itself. He has a solid grasp on the English language. I hate on Winick for his blatant disregard for prior characterization, his tired plot-twists, his overuse of death as a cheap tool for insta-drama, and plot-holes wide enough to fly a Bat-Wing through.

Did you read his Outsiders by any chance? Suddenly Nightwing is a murderer, an international terrorist, and is overthrowing military dictatorships in Africa, while leaving the murderers to rot on abandoned islands. You serious? That's not even getting into him having a random hook-up with Starfire while in a committed relationship with Oracle in his ongoing. Even though the writer on the ongoing at the time asked him repeatedly NOT to do exactly that. What makes it worse is that he was the only major DC writer to support Didio's proposal to kill Dick off in IC in the first place. But somehow he "loves" the character, and managed to become the writer for Nightwing's team book, with the new Titans series.

And oh, Titans... The perfect example of death losing all effect as a literary tool. Have you read the Titans East one-shot? To kick off the new book, he brutally kills off some seven lesser known teen-to-20-something aged characters. What a novel way to start off a new run, right? What quality writing! How unique! Oh, but didn't he just start off the Green Arrow/Black Canary book the same way? Oh and hey, I could swear he started up the Outsiders and the Teen Titans the same way in Graduation Day, right? Yeah, I'm right. Because nothing says "good writing" like a massacre.

His Green Arrow book has been nothing but a "villain of the month" book for years. Identity Crisis comes out? Green Arrow's fighting Dr. Light. Deathstroke bombs Bludhaven in Infinite Crisis? Guess who he's fighting OYL. Then we have a break for the wedding, then it's business as usual. Amazons Attack? GA and BC vs the Amazons! (who saw that coming?), and now? Ra's al Ghul just got a high profile crossover in the Bat-books, and guess who's the big bad in the Green Arrow book as of issue 8? What's worse is that Black Canary got pulled out of Birds of Prey (which I absolutely love(d)) to be in this book and JLA. His earlier issues were fun, and I even forgave him the idiocy of Constantine Drakon, because he was a cool character. But it's been spiraling down since issue 50 or so from the last run, with no signs of improving. It angers me.

It would be remiss of me if I didn't mention Jason Todd. Superboy Prime punches the walls of reality, and that brings Jason back to life? Batman didn't know about it because he'd put sensors in the ground that detected when someone was breaking IN to the coffin, but not when someone was breaking OUT? ARE YOU SERIOUS? That's quite possibly the lamest explanation for a character's revival ever. I mean, seriously. He punched a wall. I'd have accepted some convoluted plot by Ra's (who did factor in later) or even BAT-MITE doing it, but some wall punches? Really, is Superboy Prime punching a wall a plot device that would come from a "good writer"?

Then there's the gratuitous sex-scenes, random character hook-ups, and the ham-fisted "after school special" story arcs that make a Winick book a Winick book.

This doesn't mean that I don't like all of his work. What I've read of his Exiles run was excellent. He gave Kyle Rayner some much needed depth back when he was on GL. I even liked that Blood & Water mini he did for Vertigo back in 2003. But now he's been giving more leeway in his plotlines, with less editorial oversight (or maybe the wrong type of editorial oversight...) and it's showing.

So when I say he's a hack who shouldn't be allowed near any of the characters I care about, it's not mindless hate. It's a well-reasoned and well-founded assertion that every character he touches for an extended period of time becomes infected (metaphorically, of course) with AIDS.

That's my problem with Judd Winick.

Hi. Thanks for the DC previews. I like the current supergirl story. issue 27 was cool becuase of the time travel and the mysterious batmen. can't wait to read issue 28.

Speaking of judd winnick i like his current green arrow/black canary run but i hated his red hood run in batman.
Bye guys and keep up the good work.

I totally agree with that one-track-minded fan who called in and yelled "Nextwave Nextwave NEXTWAAAAAAVE..."

But for DC... cancel GL corps. It's completely unnecessary after the Sindestro Corps war. I just ain't feeling it.

Then... and THEN... bring back Swamp Thing, and put Grant Morrison on it. All-star Superman harkens back to Moore's Superman stuff. Let's see what he can do to everyone's favorite plant.

trials of shazan has been immense as was his work on green arrow. And as always i agree with Justin, bring back Aquaman.

      Mon' the Justin
