Geoff Johns is to DC as Barb is to Q...praise jebus he re-signed...I hear he's prepped to take over answering phones in the office after Giffen lessens some of his duties...

Wolverine should quit all the other teams (and books) he's in and stick to X-Force, its where he belongs.
I really liked that you included your reactions to Newsarama news. You should make that a new segment of your show.

Wolverine for president? No way Wolverine for Prime Minister since he's Canadian remember?

After seeing your commercial, not only do I now not have any one talk with about comics. My fate of loneliness is sealed. There are only 3 of you and you met by accident (like being bit by a radioactive spider or surviving a gamma bomb blast). ;-)

Geoff Johns is only writing the first 12 issues of booster gold

Please oh God please change the show format. As we approach the 1 year anniversary of the show its time to look back at that first show

and consider, is the show now better or worse than it was a year ago? I think the answer is painfully obvious. Just look at the effort and production value of those old PS shows. Maybe if the show were better it wouldnt be so hard to get ad revenue...
Pete, its time to hit the gym. Even that X-Large shirt was stretched out. Too much home cookin bro.

Hydra is the red shirts of the Marvel Universe

With the whole fight vs story arguement, it depends on the comic itself. If it's a comic with a ton of superheroes, then yes you should have a fight in it. Otherwise, why have Superman and Batman in a title together and nothing happens?

But a man who can make a great comic with little to no fighting is Alan Moore. Some of his great comics like From Hell, The Killing Joke, and Watchmen have very little action in the stories itself. Most of it is expository, very few punches thrown, and overall reads like a novel more then anything else.

I perfer both and dont usually depend on seeing more of either. But if I do see a JLA, JSA, Avengers (etc) title and I'm almost done reading it and there's no fight somewhere. I'm gonna ask 'where is it?'

Pete subliminally reviews every speed round pick by shaking his head in disapproval at everything Justin reviews.
I liked touching on the news this week, great show

Great show as usual! GJ is the balls (hes good i guess i'm tryin to say)
  • PeteCBC wrote on February 11, 9:46 pm:
a couple of things, first thanks on the pointer to hit the gym. Second sorry I made a mistake. The speed round gets crazy. When I reviewed Scud, I was actually reviewing Wasteland. Scud is black and white and funny. But Wasteland is the comic with no panels.

I liked the news segment to begin the show, but the table still needs to go, its just soooo lame. You guys need to hire an intern who's in cinematography school. Spice things up. Good God YOUR IN NEW YORK! Go outside for pete's sake. Seriously, for Pete's sake, he needs the walk. Film in Central Park, or Ground Zero, or the Staten Island ferry, or atop the Statue of Liberty, or Empire State building, or Trump Tower, or the Bronx zoo, or Yankee Stadium, or Times Square and get Pete(or part of him) on the Jumbo-tron, the possibilities are endless. You guys barely utilize the greenscreen anyway so whats the point of using that lame studio?
  • Bombardem wrote in reply on March 2, 12:46 am:
Well the guys at http://www.ifanboy.com/ took this advice anyway. In their latest show they travelled around NY and visited actual sites in the city that have been made famous and infamous in Marvel comics. Leaving the studio, what a concept...
  • Bombardem wrote on February 12, 1:38 am:
If you want to see something funny go to http://www.ifanboy.com/
They are rebuilding their website, so instead of the site its all the guys on webcams, live.
  • tbone305 wrote on February 12, 2:26 am:
bombardem is right, this format sucks ass. That first episode looked like a finely tuned operation. You guys must be pocketing too much of your funds. Throw in some specials where you actually leave that dungeon and talk to some real life human beings.
  • the kid who sucks but has potential wrote on February 12, 2:29 am:
do you guys have stalkers? How about groupies? Do girls throw their underwear to you guys? On a more serious note, how about showing the live office background again?
  • Bandida wrote on February 12, 4:27 am:
You know, when purchasing comics, I normally make sure to do the exact opposite of what Pete suggests, buying (and loving) what he pans, and ignoring the books he goes gaga over (because generally they suck, even though SCUD is full of 90's and awesome). But I'm still getting X-Force. Pete's love for the book leaves me a bit apprehensive, but I'm putting my faith in Kyle and Yost.

As for books with no action... Nightwing 141 had no fighting whatsoever. It was all plot advancements and exposition and fun times with Dick and Wally, and it still managed to be the best book put out by either of the big two that week (even better than JSA and The Twelve). Action for action's sake makes for a weak comic.

Wow, these are some mighty comments.
I'd agree to spicing things up a bit, but they don't need an overhaul. If I wanted to watch some crazy jazzed up show I'd look elsewhere, but if I want some fun and pointed discussion on comics I come here.

Maybe you guys covered this in a previous episode, sorry I've only been watching since about october. I was wondering what initially got you guys into comics, and what were some of your first books?
  • goodguyswearred wrote on February 12, 7:51 pm:
Also, thanks for having the coolest show ever.
  • Fonlon wrote on February 12, 9:27 pm:
There are a lot of "haters" on this comment section. I really like Pete's suggestions, and think his opinions are hilarious. These guys aren't doing this show to make money, they're doing because they love comics. I agree it would be nice for them to mix of the format a little bit, going outside is a good idea. I've been watch this show for a while now, and my only complaint would be that they like too much stuff. I love the show keep it up guys.
  • DrDoobious wrote in reply on February 12, 11:19 pm:
I agree, Pete cracks me up, his opinions provide a nice variety to the show! never change Pete, ever!
  • Bombardem wrote in reply on February 13, 12:48 am:
The only thing I hate is the show being so boring, after it was so clever and imaginative a year ago. We tease Pete because we like him, and from what I understand they do indeed do this show to make money, in fact I believe the quote when asked was "this IS our day job".

Wow that commercial you guys have is....weird

Comic Book Reviews: Booster Gold #0, X-Force #1 and Fantastic Four #554

Today's show starts off with some very big news: James Robinson is going to be writing Superman starting with issue #676 in May. James Robinson is best know for writing Starman. Also, Geoff Johns has re-signed with DC Comics to write exclusively for DC.

Then, we've got three Newsarama Sneak Reviews starting with Fantastic Four #554 with a new writer and artist team: Mark Millar and Brian Hitch. We've got a couple of gripes, but overall we're very happy with the new direction and we'll tell you why.

Then, we've got Booster Gold #0, written by Geoff Johns. We counted four Blue Beetles in this book. Time travel paradoxes aside, this is a book we highly recommend you pick up.

And we're also highly recommending the highly anticipated X-Force #1. Lots of action and a must read for X-Men: Messiah Complex fans.

In the speed round, after years of waiting we've finally got Rob Schrab's Scud #21, Star Wars Rebellion #11 (because you guys asked for more Star Wars), Doktor Sleepless #5, Space...
