Comic Book Reviews: Booster Gold #0, X-Force #1 and Fantastic Four #554
Today's show starts off with some very big news: James Robinson is going to be writing Superman starting with issue #676 in May. James Robinson is best know for writing Starman. Also, Geoff Johns has re-signed with DC Comics to write exclusively for DC.
Then, we've got three Newsarama Sneak Reviews starting with Fantastic Four #554 with a new writer and artist team: Mark Millar and Brian Hitch. We've got a couple of gripes, but overall we're very happy with the new direction and we'll tell you why.
Then, we've got Booster Gold #0, written by Geoff Johns. We counted four Blue Beetles in this book. Time travel paradoxes aside, this is a book we highly recommend you pick up.
And we're also highly recommending the highly anticipated X-Force #1. Lots of action and a must read for X-Men: Messiah Complex fans.
In the speed round, after years of waiting we've finally got Rob Schrab's Scud #21, Star Wars Rebellion #11 (because you guys asked for more Star Wars), Doktor Sleepless #5, Space...

I really liked that you included your reactions to Newsarama news. You should make that a new segment of your show.

and consider, is the show now better or worse than it was a year ago? I think the answer is painfully obvious. Just look at the effort and production value of those old PS shows. Maybe if the show were better it wouldnt be so hard to get ad revenue...
Pete, its time to hit the gym. Even that X-Large shirt was stretched out. Too much home cookin bro.
With the whole fight vs story arguement, it depends on the comic itself. If it's a comic with a ton of superheroes, then yes you should have a fight in it. Otherwise, why have Superman and Batman in a title together and nothing happens?
But a man who can make a great comic with little to no fighting is Alan Moore. Some of his great comics like From Hell, The Killing Joke, and Watchmen have very little action in the stories itself. Most of it is expository, very few punches thrown, and overall reads like a novel more then anything else.
I perfer both and dont usually depend on seeing more of either. But if I do see a JLA, JSA, Avengers (etc) title and I'm almost done reading it and there's no fight somewhere. I'm gonna ask 'where is it?'
I liked touching on the news this week, great show
They are rebuilding their website, so instead of the site its all the guys on webcams, live.
As for books with no action... Nightwing 141 had no fighting whatsoever. It was all plot advancements and exposition and fun times with Dick and Wally, and it still managed to be the best book put out by either of the big two that week (even better than JSA and The Twelve). Action for action's sake makes for a weak comic.
I'd agree to spicing things up a bit, but they don't need an overhaul. If I wanted to watch some crazy jazzed up show I'd look elsewhere, but if I want some fun and pointed discussion on comics I come here.
