One thing that people don't seem to be addressing anywhere is the believability component of the ONE MORE DAY storyline. Stan Lee always used to say that these characters "write themselves". But it really seemed as though JMS had to twist himself into a pretzel to get Peter and MJ to "justify" their actions which were so ridiculously out of character. First, Peter is all about taking responsibility - and by taking this action, he is NOT taking responsibility - he is childishly "wishing" to undo the consequences of his actions. This tells me he has learned NOTHING since the spider first bit him. Why not simply wish to undo Uncle Ben being killed and go back to high school? Then Gwen is back and Captain Stacy, et al. Secondly, what would Aunt May think of striking a bargain with the devil? How is Peter a hero if he would even CONSIDER such a thing? A hero who strikes a bargain with Satan? I'm no religious nut, but that seems a bit wrong to me. My problem with the story is NOT that it occurred, but that there is no way I can buy Peter and MJ's actions based upon who they are. Take continuity questions out of it: If they had found another way to make this happen, I might have bought it. I bought Crisis on Infinite Earth's premise, after all, even if it resulted in twenty years of confusion in the DCU. But based upon the story that JQ mandated by editorial fiat, the way they CHOSE to do this makes Peter pathetic and unrelatable, no matter how well written the story. By the way, nice show, guys - and Pete, just own up to it - I know Alex used to grab you in the office all the time.

Personally, I think there are tons of stories that can be told about a married Peter Parker that cannot be told about an unmarried one. I find it infinitely more interesting to read about a married 20-30 year than an unmarried one. Aren't there enough unmarried superheroes anyway?

Great show guys, I agree with all your reviews. Glad to see Pete back.

I hated the way OMD ended. Completely out of character for both Peter and MJ and opens a huge can of worms with going back in time. Stupid, bad idea. I'm not happy with it and think the story should have moved forward, not back. All I want to know is how does this change Spider-man's relationship to the New Avengers in present day? If there was no MJ then there was no fight with Wolverine when the New Avengers got together. If you mess with continuity like that you create a paradox. Maybe the Civil War never happens if MJ isn't in Peter's life. What about Mark Millar and Terry Dodson's awesome Sinister 12 story line? Did it just Never Happen??? Like I said... can of worms. It's a sad attempt to undo him revealing his identity. Marvel let it happen, so deal with it, don't cop out. In the words of the great Pete LePage... "IT BLOWS! ***scratch balls***"

I like how you get to do sneak peek reviews of books, and then trash them. Heh. Not that it's undeserved.

Welcome back, Pete! Glad to hear you had fun on the Love Boat. Or not.

By the way, is that Ellis book pronounced "Gravel" like the crushed rock or "Gra-Vell" like the old senator from Alaska (Mike Gravel of Pentagon Papers fame)? I've heard the latter more often, but haven't heard Ellis talk about it either way.

I always considered Metropolis to be the New York of the DC universe, and Gotham to be the Chicago(if Chicago were on the east coast), but thats just me. Other people consider Metropolis to be NY in the daylight, and Gotham is NY at night.

I'm really enjoying Thunderbolts too. I only started reading it because I wanted to see how Warren Ellis was going to make a psychopathic killer (Bullseye) into some kind of hero. Turns out you can't really make a psychopathic killer into a hero. :)

I'm totally with Pete on retconning OMD. As they pointed out on Newsarama, there's plenty of single Spider-Men in other books, and ASM was the only place you could tell stories about a married, mature Peter Parker. Now he's some momma's boy, and the stories we'll read are the same ones that happened 30-some-odd years ago.

Me? I'm off the book until it actually matters again.

Another day, another talk without the mention of Powers
      *Sigh*

Um, repeating this twice a week probably isn't helping your cause.

Hey Guys great shows! Love the talk about OMD. I completely agree with Pete on this one. It blows.

Pete mentioned reading comics online, and I know it's been mentioned before too, but where can I go online to view comics? I had heard Marvel had a service, but are there others too? Thanks for the info! It would be greatly appreciated!

    • Clive wrote in reply on January 8, 7:25 am

Marvel is the only publisher I know that has an online service right now, and the newest books you can read on theirs is six months old.

The Stack guys probably were sent a pdf of the two preview books they read by the companies.

    • JennConley wrote in reply on January 8, 8:45 pm

Oh, bummer. I thought it was just marvel, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks!

    • Bombardem wrote in reply on January 8, 9:52 pm

Well you can read plenty of comics online, but for the most part not the big 4's. Check Newsarama.com they have a TON of online comics, some quite big names, for free. DC has the Zuda service which isnt bad.
If you arent bashful about piracy you can always look up comics on Limewire or other filesharing programs, and use a reader like ComicCal to view them. Most major comics are scanned and on there within days of release day.

Why was Alex such a dick in this episode? He normally gives Pete crap but today Alex was pretty menstrual. Is he jealous that he didn't get to go to the erotic cruise with Pete? Or that Young Blood sucked and he was taking out his Image rage on Mr. LaPage?

    • Alexander Zalben wrote in reply on January 9, 10:58 am

I'm not going to say it was not because Pete didn't invite me on his erotic cruise.

    • Clinton Perkins wrote on January 10, 3:24 am

Very good show my first time seeing this. Do you talk about the old and new.

    • Alexander Zalben wrote in reply on January 10, 9:24 am

Mainly the new, but if you have questions about older issues, definitely send us one!

I didnt like having a married Peter Parker but now looking at it in this our "Brand New Day" I cant help but wonder if AMS is gonna focus ALOT on Petes love life now. Peter isnt supposed to have a grand love life thats why i think the marriage worked. It was natrual for Petes character to want to marry MJ. Besides we already have Pete single and a kid in USM.

"He can have a date with his WIFE!!!" Scared the crap out of me, as it did to the co-hosts at the end! LOL

Man, I hate the ending to OMD, I was liking it and it was a mature continuation of the story, seemed more believable. But the devil business was like, watching that episode of Futurama i.e. great for a joke, not so great for a comic trying to retain continuity. And now BRAND NEW DAY sucks.

Comic Book Reviews: Uncanny X-Men #494, Nightwing #140 and Youngblood

We're all enjoying the Messiah Complex crossover in Uncanny X-Men. However, we've got a couple of gripes. Watch this episode to find out what they could be doing better. Then, in our Newsarama Sneak Review, we check out Youngblood #1 and Nightwing #140. In Youngblood, we think the story line sounds a little familiar. Watch the show and see what we mean. We spoil the "big" reveal at the end of Nightwing #140, so be warned.

Then in our speed round we check out Thunderbolts #118, Northlanders #2, Shark Man #1, Wildstorm Revelations #1, and Gravel #0.

In our viewer mail we talk about how we'd feel if by this time next year, Marvel has undone the end result of "One More Day".
