So...Pete's on a "cruise" is he? It's starting to look suspicious - what have you really done with him!? I suspect you have him hidden away and are forcing him to read Countdown and all it's related tie-ins!

I miss pete. would he have said art or story for the view question?

    • Ephraim (anon) wrote on January 3, 1:48 pm

Great call on "the art hooks you but the writer keeps you."

And Agreed: if the art is the best in the world but the writing sucks, DROP IT. i.e. Superman: For Tomorrow

    • I Eat Planets (anon) wrote on January 3, 2:47 pm

      Finnaly a mention of Powers
I expect the same next week

    • Lusvell wrote on January 3, 2:49 pm

Is there an address or something where I can send you guys a comic that I would be working on?

    • Alexander Zalben wrote in reply on January 3, 4:26 pm

Yup, write me at alex@pulpsecret.com, and I'll get you the info.

I have to say, given a preference, I want great writing and decent art. I dont need spectaular art in every panel, I need good storytelling art. For instance Brent Anderson's work on Astro City, or Steve Epting's work on Captain America. These guys are capable of great splash art, but know how and when to use it. Bad or even mediocre art is usually too distracting, no matter how good the writing, though there are exceptions in cases like the comico Grendel books where there were sometimes 32 panels per page and the art was almost stick figure like. As in anything there are exceptions.

Show has been better without Pete. Less crotch scratching, and you two actually read all the books you're reviewing.

Two requests for next week. Any chance of you guys chiming in on Tomasi's Nightwing, or Straczynski's The Twelve? I know might be difficult to judge them just one issue in, but I'm curious, nonetheless. Keep doing what you do. And MORE INDIES!!

    • Xray085 wrote on January 3, 7:10 pm

In this episode Alex's vocabulary went from Erudite to Twat! The range of this was amazing another great episode too.

    • JennConley wrote on January 3, 8:56 pm

Wow. Hymen and twat all in the same show. Haha. You really know how to keep the ladies watching. :)

I agree that storytelling is essential in a comic book, but if the art sucks, I can't stand it. I'm a visual person I guess. It does only alst so long though. If the art is fantastic, but the writing is lame, then eventually I get bored and move onto something else. So, basically...you guys are write. haha

Chris Bachalo is the man! And I used to love joe madureira and j. scott campbell, but they get more and more giant boob anime looking.

Anywa, that's all. I miss Pete.

Love the new "Speed Round" intro though. :)

    • JennConley wrote in reply on January 3, 8:57 pm

wow, my grammar and spelling sucked there. I'm sick damnit....

    • PeteCBC wrote on January 3, 9:11 pm

I would say story. But I have just read a comic for the art, I am looking at you Ultimates.

    • williamthemighty wrote on January 3, 9:42 pm

Could you please do a review of the "new" Gen13 ? personally I have mixed feelings about wildstorm "re-doing" continuity post-crisis .

Also , if you could do a review of Marvel's Exiles and tell us what you think Marvel should do to "fix" the book , that would be cool !

    • Xray085 wrote on January 4, 8:34 pm

I don't know if anybody over there has more info but have you guys heard the rumors that Brandon Routh is being replaced by the actor introduced in the Justice League and Singer is out as well. What do you guys think?

    • Alexander Zalben wrote in reply on January 6, 9:26 am

Not true about Routh! That is, of course, assuming there's ever a second Superman movie...

    • richbob wrote on January 5, 8:11 pm

Loved seeing the indie submissions included! Hope it's a regular thing.

    • Alexander Zalben wrote in reply on January 6, 1:39 pm

You guys keep sending 'em, we'll keep reviewing 'em!

    • Apocrypha wrote on January 6, 1:36 pm

I laughed the most at this episode. You guys are just so geeky...not that there's anything wrong with that. "Ha Ha Speed"? Wow, is all I can say about that. :)

Do you script every detail of these episodes or are they have prepared/half improv?

    • JustinTyler wrote in reply on January 7, 12:18 pm

The truth is it's pretty much all made up on the spot, the only thing that we know at the top is which comics we're going to review, and that Rambo has our back

    • leland222 (anon) wrote on January 7, 5:46 am

I love this show you guys. I really do look forward to new posts because I love talking about comics and I love to laugh. Comics + Laughing = The Stack. My sister only reads a couple comics in trades but she'll watch the show with me sometimes because we both get a kick out of you guys. I just wish your show was longer.

I also got into Blue Beetle because of you guys and it's one of the books I look forward to all month. Keep up the awesome work.

      P.S. I miss Pete.

    • Alexander Zalben wrote in reply on January 7, 9:09 am

Pete is back this week! Well, today, actually. Later today.

      Thanks for watching...

Viewer Submitted Indies: Unbeatable, Redball 6 and DOSE!

Some of our viewers don't just read comics, they MAKE them. Sometimes they send them in to us. We picked some of our favorites for this episode of The Stack.

    • Unbeatable: an original graphic novel featuring some stunning artwork and a strong story.
    • Redball 6: a detective comic set in an urban version of hell.
    • DOSE: a collection of short comic pieces, done up Mad Magazine-style and written by people like Evan Dorkin and Alex Segura.

In the speed round, we get back to the mainstream with The Brave and The Bold #9, X-Men #206, Thor #5, Crossing Midnight #14, and Drafted #4.

In our viewer mail: Writers or artists? Who is more important?
