    • New Watchmen Posters

POSTED BY CHARLIE SCHNEIDER, JULY 31 2008 09:47 PM | PERMALINK

Warner Brothers has just posted some new movie posters for Watchmen. They were even nice enough to post high res versions. I'll say they were really promoting this movie hardcore at Comic Con last week. Everyone at the DC Booth (the employees) were wearing Watchmen T-shirts (which everyone wanted), and they even had the Owl Ship which will be featured in an upcoming Popular Mechanics article.

Has anyone read the article recently about how the visual style of Zach Snyder's Watchmen will differ...

    • Late Night Reading With Frank Miller

POSTED BY CHARLIE SCHNEIDER, JUNE 01 2008 10:14 PM | PERMALINK

There's been a lot of talk about the new Spirit Movie based on the works of Will Eisner. As you all know this is Frank Miller's second outing as a director (Sin City being the first co-directed with Robert Rodriguez), and first as solo flight as director. Because of the black and white teaser trailer shown around New York Comic Con fans and critics have wondered if The Spirit should be called "Sin City 2". Recently Miller laid all fears to rest saying that The Spirit is a full-color movie.

    • Comics! Ultimate Human #4, Countdown #1, New Avengers #40

POSTED BY ALEX ZALBEN, APRIL 28 2008 12:10 PM | PERMALINK

Pete's a big fan of Ultimate Human #4 but Justin's not having it and says there's a Duck Tales reference in there somewhere. Hmmmm.

Then, we've made it all the way to Countdown #1 and we've gotta say, we haven't really been bowled over by this series. It just didn't pan out and we didn't need 52 issues of this.

The Secret Invasion is on in New Avengers #40 with Bendis at the reins. We really enjoyed this issue, but we think putting this great story under the "New Avengers" title does this story a...

    • Comic Reviews: Comic Book Comics, She-Hulk #26 and Marvel Zombies 2 #5

POSTED BY ALEX ZALBEN, FEBRUARY 28 2008 11:17 AM | PERMALINK

We've got a Newsarama Review of She-Hulk #26. We like what Peter David is doing with this series. In this issue She-Hulk's has some identity issues and is questioning whether or not she's a hero. Spoiler Alert: She-Hulk gets her pants blasted off!

We also review Marvel Zombies 2 #5. We're not completely thrilled with the final issue of this series. It felt like the characters were a bit removed from their environment.

Comic Book Comics deals with the history of comic books in the form of a comic. It truly...

    • Jenna Jameson Comics? Green Arrow Black Canary #4 and The Twelve #1: Comic Book Reviews

POSTED BY ALEX ZALBEN, JANUARY 17 2008 10:24 AM | PERMALINK

Pete gets a little choked up over Green Arrow Black Canary #4. Find out why! The Twelve is called "The Novel of Tomorrow", so why is it set in the 1940s? Then we check out the "last" issue of The Spirit written by J Bone and Darwyn Cooke. We really liked this issue and highly recommend picking it up.

In the speed round, we give our quick thoughts on The Foundation #1, The Mighty Avengers #7, Northwind #1, Hulk #1, and Jenna Jameson's Shadow Hunter #0 (which might actually be good!).

      Then we answer a...

    • Miller Scores Another Bombshell

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 26 2007 02:00 PM | PERMALINK

Frank Miller apparently gets the ladies. One week after the announcement of Scarlett Johansson to the cast of "The Spirit," comes news of another curvaceous actress to the troupe, that of bombshell Eva Mendes (marking her second comic-book film role, the first being in "Ghost Rider.") Not a bad one-two punch of femininity to put on screen, by any measure.

Mendes will play the Spirit's love interest, Sand Serif. From the sounds of it, casting is set and the crew is projected to begin filming in...

    • Sam Jackson Talks Spirit, Nick Fury

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 22 2007 11:23 AM | PERMALINK

Sam Jackson is a busy man. In addition to all the "normal" movie roles he finds himself in, one could make an argument that he's the James Brown of Hollywood... the hardest working man around. Of course, one of those projects is the upcoming "Spirit" movie directed by Frank Miller. Another project that could happen in the future is a stint as Nick Fury.

Quint over at AICN got Sammy J. on the phone for an interview to talk mostly about his new movie but managed to get some questions in about the...

    • Johansson Gets Spirit-ed Away

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 17 2007 03:00 PM | PERMALINK

Frank Miller's big-screen adaptation of Will Eisner's classic "The Spirit" franchise just got a lot hotter with the announcement of Scarlet Johansson to the cast. The Hollywood bombshell will reportedly be playing femme fatale secretary, a character with ties to the villain (The Octopus) played by Samuel Jackson, in the upcoming film.

Much like Gwyneth Paltrow, Johansson has the perfect look and frame to play a 1940s period female lead, and should bring the right feel to the character (Paltrow, in...

This week we watch as Darwyn Cooke and J. Bone resurrect DC's The Spirit, Alex Garner and Ashley Wood continue to sneak IDW's Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty onto shelves, and Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips take a hit from Icon's Coward. Additional sounds courtesy of ERH and Halleck.
