Speed Racer Zooms to theaters at Mach 5

Don't throw away your ticket stubs yet, Iron Man was only the beginning in a long line of summer blockbusters. Next up this week is Speed Racer the next big release from the Wachowski Brothers. This film has been working toward the big screen since 1992, and it's finally made it here. Early trailers show a highly stylized view of the Racer Universe, and speculation about the quality of the film is optimistic.

Every time I think about Superman I think about the Christopher Reeve Superman. I suppose that's because I'm a child of the 80s. That and the Donner flicks were just so darn good. We're liking Gary Frank's artwork in Action Comics #863, but Alex takes issue with the level of excitement in this issue.

The we've got another sneak review of Amazing Spider-Girl #19, a title we haven't yet reviewed on the show. It's pretty well done, but deals with a very small sphere of the Marvel universe.

And in the speed round we check out Reich #2, Cable #2, Young Avengers Present Wiccan & Speed, Anna Mercury #1 and Walking Dead #48.

We picked up issue #2 of The Twelve, a great series that we highly recommend. The Twelve follows Golden Age heroes that wake up in the present day after being frozen for 60 years.

We really enjoyed the hero-packed issue #12 of JSA. Lots of heroes, lots of stories and they're recruiting even more in this issue.

Fables issue #69 is more of a great series that we really like. The artwork is top-notch and the story is huge.
