    • The Science of Superman's Flight

POSTED BY CHARLIE SCHNEIDER, MAY 26 2008 03:11 PM | PERMALINK

Over the years the way human flight has been depicted has evolved. Superman's flight is a really good way to look at the way we perceive flight. Does Superman "jump" into the air? Why can he just move upwards without any perceived effort in modern day movies? In the CW series Smallville he is depicted taking off in a "Matrix" (the movie) like fashion. This clip was featured on the Superman DVD released in conjunction with the feature release of Superman Returns. For any science nerds like myself out there...

    • Grant Morrison Interview Memories

POSTED BY CHARLIE SCHNEIDER, APRIL 23 2008 12:42 PM | PERMALINK

The purple pin-stripe suit still stands out clearly in my head. That and the accent. I knew that we'd get to meet Grant Morrison, but thanks to a double booking our group (Pete LePage, John Suintres, Me, Scott Moschella, Jeaux Jeavanosky, Manny Mederos, and Steve Nelson) got to do his interview. I'm glad I didn't have to wrestle with Pete and John over the rights to actually interview him. Just kidding, there was no wrestling. John did the interview and Grant didn't hold anything back. Here's a...

    • NYCC Day Two Pictures Updated

POSTED BY CHARLIE SCHNEIDER, APRIL 20 2008 07:46 PM | PERMALINK

Sunday is winding down and I've just posted some photo updates from Day Two at New York Comic Con 2008. I have to say I really enjoyed the final day of New York Comic Con a lot. Friday may have been my favorite, but with the slightly decreased crowd it was much easier to get around and much easier to talk with the artists and other comic book creators. My only dissapointment was not bringing enough money to get sketches (or signing up for commissions early). For any who don't know (and that...

    • A NYCC Rookie Journal

POSTED BY CHARLIE SCHNEIDER, APRIL 19 2008 09:55 PM | PERMALINK

This is my second trip to a comic con and my first trip to NYCC.  I didn't know what to expect after having been to San Diego Comic Con back in 2006, but I knew it would be a lot of fun.  This is also my first year as a member of the press, meaning that as much as I'm here to enjoy myself, I'm also here to shuck and jive for my lunch.  Friday was great, I spent the whole day with Pete, John, and our film crew (Steve and Scott) on the show floor interviewing movie stars and comic book titans.  For a...

    • COUNTDOWN SPECIAL: ECLIPSO 80-PAGE GIANT

POSTED BY CHARLIE SCHNEIDER, MARCH 26 2008 02:06 PM | PERMALINK

Way back when I was new to the world of comics my friend introduced me to Eclipso. He was hands down the darkest creepiest character I had ever seen at the age of 13. Way back before comics featured major anti-heroes (with a few exceptions) Eclipso was a major player in the "dark" realm of comic books. During the recent DC Crisis and tie-ins, Eclipso has once again become a major mystical player. DC has collected the stories from Eclipso #10 Spectre #17-18 into an 80-page giant issue.

    • Remembering Arthur C. Clarke

POSTED BY CHARLIE SCHNEIDER, MARCH 20 2008 11:51 AM | PERMALINK

In honor of the great Arthur C. Clarke's passing I thought I'd take a moment to pay homage to the man who influenced so many people. Most probably remember Clarke for his popular science fiction novels like 2001: A Space Oddysey, Childhood's End, and The Fountains of Paradise. What you may not know is that he came up with the idea for geosynchronos satellites. He was talking about communications satellites, but even in the comic book world people listened. That's why the Justice League's...

    • World of Warcraft Raids Your Comics Store

      POSTED BY , JULY 27 2007 12:05 PM | PERMALINK

With the extremely popular MMO World of Warcraft reporting its 9th million subscriber today and already successfully migrated into lucrative trading card game, clothing and accessories ventures, game developer Blizzard is now taking its digital crack into comic book form with the help of DC.

No word yet on whether Leroy Jenkins will be a character (sorry, couldn’t resist) but the series will be written by fan favorite Walter Simonson and drawn by Ludo Lullabi and Sandra Hope.

      Blizzard is well known...
