Countdown #49 - Give Dini A Chance!
May 23, 2007
Okay, to all the haters, let me just say one thing: I liked 52. I’m not saying all 52 issues were great. But there was a lot to enjoy, such as:
- Booster Gold being a huge jerk and then getting flash-fried
- Lots of people on the road to crazytown – Black Adam, Dr. Magnus, and my favorite, Ralph Dibny.
- Renee Montoya/Batwoman
- The desert island vacation resort/prison for mad scientists!
So having enjoyed 52, I was perfectly willing to give Countdown a shot. In fact, I expected...

The Collectapocalypse
September 18, 2007
The Collectapocalypse has begun.
Like so many other rabid comic book collectors and purists, it is absolutely essential to my very sanity and self-worth as a person that every single issue I own is in pristine, virginal supermint condition. It is also inherently imperative that each issue must stay in said condition until the bitter end of time itself, a frozen image of perfection, encased in a protective shell that would make Han Solo jealous.
Covers must keep an unmolested luster bright enough...

Countdown Arena
November 12, 2007
So, Countdown, big hit, right? Creating a huge, die-hard fanbase? With a deep interest in spin-off series'?
Well DC is banking on the above statement being true. Yikes. However, one look at these Andy Kubert covers for Countdown Arena may change your tune, as well as the concept for the series. All the popular heroes from the multiverse (popular elseworld series) will battle for the coveted spot in Monarch's army in his battle against the Monitors. Cool or uncool? I plan on opening an underground...

Angel: After the Fall, The Incredible Herc, and The Order
December 27, 2007The first issue of the new series The Incredible Herc hits the stores with characters based on Greek mythology. We think it's worth picking up, find out why. We were pretty critical of Special Forces #1, does Issue 2 show signs of this book getting better? Alex says The Order, written by Matt Fraction is the best bang for your buck on the stands today.
Plus we've got Army @ Love, Wolverine: Firebreak and Angel: After the Fall and more in our speed round.
Then, in our mailbag we answer a tough one: If we... -
Walk the Line
March 14, 2008

Why does it fascinate us as readers to read about the anti-heroes of the comic world? What does it mean to "Walk the Line" between justice and frenetic crime-fighting? Because who among us hasn't wished metaphorically for the power to strike down our enemies (be them imaginary or real). These types of characters like The Punisher, Wolverine, and the Red Hood all throw out the "crime fighting for conventional superheroes" book. The take it to the streets and play by their own rules....

COUNTDOWN SPECIAL: ECLIPSO 80-PAGE GIANT
March 26, 2008

Way back when I was new to the world of comics my friend introduced me to Eclipso. He was hands down the darkest creepiest character I had ever seen at the age of 13. Way back before comics featured major anti-heroes (with a few exceptions) Eclipso was a major player in the "dark" realm of comic books. During the recent DC Crisis and tie-ins, Eclipso has once again become a major mystical player. DC has collected the stories from Eclipso #10 Spectre #17-18 into an 80-page giant issue.

The Wizard Shazam gets his finale
April 7, 2008
I can't believe that way back in 2006 when I was knee-deep in Infinite Crisis that the Captain Marvel character would end up becoming the new Wizard Shazam. The earth's most mightiest mortal has been battling his way through the 12-part limited series The Trials of Shazam! Since 1972 DC has been using the Marvel family to incorporate a more magical dimension to the DC Universe. Fans will know that with the events of Day of Vengeance, Infinite Crisis, 52, and Countdown, the Marvel family...

Comics! Ultimate Human #4, Countdown #1, New Avengers #40
April 28, 2008Pete's a big fan of Ultimate Human #4 but Justin's not having it and says there's a Duck Tales reference in there somewhere. Hmmmm.
Then, we've made it all the way to Countdown #1 and we've gotta say, we haven't really been bowled over by this series. It just didn't pan out and we didn't need 52 issues of this. The Secret Invasion is on in New Avengers #40 with Bendis at the reins. We really enjoyed this issue, but we think putting this great story under the "New Avengers" title does this story a...
