Nick Fury is...

    POSTED BY , 25 June 2007

    ...Samuel L. Jackson.

Which we all know from reading Ultimates, but in the real world, Sam Jackson has just filmed a cameo as Nick Fury in Marvel's upcoming Iron Man movie.

    1) This is awesome.

    2) The scooper on Aint-It-Cool calls out what this really suggests, which is Marvel's attempt to actually build a cohesive universe. One of the biggest gripes I have with the current structure of Superhero movies is, they can't interact. Sony has Spider-Man, and Ghost Rider; Fox has FF, X-Men, and Daredevil; Universal HAD Hulk, but that's back with Marvel. So anyone who wants to see Spidey swing by the Baxter Building, or Daredevil get a brew with Ghost Rider* hasn't been able to.

With Marvel producing it's own slate of films (two a year, starting with Iron Man, and The Incredible Hulk), they'll be able to share actors, ideas, and god help us, continuity.

    3) As bleh as I am on Iron Man as a character, this movie just ends up getting cooler and cooler. I watched Zathura (Director Jon Favreau's last effort) a few weekends ago, and its a charming, well paced, well directed movie with excellent special effects. In particular, the robot in it is great. Well articulated, real looking, and not CGI.

    4) The only downside to this news is it reminded me of how annoying it is that Eminem and Halle Berry aren't in the (awful sounding) Wanted movie. But that's another post entirely.

Why does it have to be in one continuity? The idea of a Justice League movie scares me. Avengers might work though. The one team up I always wanted to see was Daredevil and Spiderman.

It doesn't HAVE to be in one continuity... I think that's the danger there. What would be awesome is the possiblity of having a cameo, which I do like.

I like the idea of Spidey swinging by the baxter buliding. Or Hulk having a beer with Wolverine. But beyond that I think It'll take away from the main character. It would become Marvel The Movie [which would be awesome] but ya idk if it would work.
