Marvel Eats Your Brain

POSTED BY Kenneth England, 28 August 2007

Depending on your perspective (and quite possibly your view on comic-universe continuity) you either loved or hated the Marvel Zombies story arcs — except for people who don't read Marvel and didn't care, but even then, there was probably an opinion in their brains as to whether it was an awesome or stupid idea. This Halloween, Marvel is going to give everyone a reason to praise or hate on the concept further with a slew of new and old zombie-related titles.

The major announcement made by Marvel is that some normal titles will have zombie variant covers this October. Marvel is being very secretive about these covers, asserting that none will be seen anywhere until they are on store shelves. The only sparse information Marvel is giving about the art is that it is done by the industry's "top artists."

Also of note is that Marvel will be re-firing the crossover engines to release a Marvel Zombies 2 miniseries. In a typical Marvel move of overkilling any crossover idea that works and sells well (see the "Infinity" nonsense of the '90s for the best example) the series will incorporate a "civil war" element with the zombies coming to Earth and taking sides against one another. See what they did there? They took their best, two selling story arcs of the past few years and mashed them together. Oh, Marvel, you just never run out of ideas.

If that wasn't enough zombie madness for you, there's also going to be hard-cover reprints of the Marvel Zombies 1 (the fifth reprint, with a new zombie Mary Jane cover no less).

Marvel Zombies: The Covers, and Marvel Zombies/Army of Darkness collections coming to stores in October. More superhero zombiness than you can shake a rotting, disembodied arm at.
