"Spectacular Spider-Man" Teasers

POSTED BY Kenneth England, 27 August 2007

Marvel has posted a trailer for the upcoming "Spectacular Spider-Man" animated series, which will premier on the WB in 2008. I love the old-school webbing under the arms look, it's a very nice touch to the aesthetic. Certainly a show for the younger audiences, but it certainly couldn't insult older Spidey fans any more than the dancing scene in "Spider-Man 3" already did.

Comics Continuum is also reporting that Venom will (not surprisingly) be a villain in the series, but won't appear until the "late stages." It's pretty obvious that they would use the most popular Spider-Man villain ever, but even more obvious from the tease at the end of the preview. Also obvious from the trailer are the other usual suspects in a Spider-Man treatment: Doc Oc and Green Goblin.

The art style looks a little plain, but the animation is nice and the writing and voicing don't seem too horrible; could make for an interesting watch just for the fight scenes for older fans, while kids will undoubtedly devour this one whole.

The trailer looks good, I saw it last week and told a bunch of friends. I hope its on a par with the animated Batman and Superman, rather than the dumbed down crap like teen titans.

I agree The Spiderman cartoons from the 90s [IMO] were the best Superhero cartoons ever. Lets Hope This Is Like Them.
