Sam Jackson Talks Spirit, Nick Fury

POSTED BY Kenneth England, 22 August 2007

Sam Jackson is a busy man. In addition to all the "normal" movie roles he finds himself in, one could make an argument that he's the James Brown of Hollywood... the hardest working man around. Of course, one of those projects is the upcoming "Spirit" movie directed by Frank Miller. Another project that could happen in the future is a stint as Nick Fury.

Quint over at AICN got Sammy J. on the phone for an interview to talk mostly about his new movie but managed to get some questions in about the comics movies as well. I think it highlights just how busy Mr. Jackson is when he knows less about the casting and pre-production of his movies than the fans do, but I guess that's excusable when you do the volume and quality of work that he does. Most interesting to me is the except about the whispered "Nick Fury" movie and that he asks Avi Arad about it whenever he sees them, and Avi's response is that he "hopes" it will happen.

Not the most reassuring answer for those Fury fans out there who are anxious for this movie, if you exist at all. As much as I love the Marvel universe and Sam Jackson, a potential Nick Fury movie sounds only slightly more compelling than say, the "Ant-Man" movie, and that's not saying much.

I love SJ, but I do not want to see him do nick fury. I really cant think of a worse choice, at least not a male one.

The Nick Fury of the Ultimate Universe is the spitting image of Sam Jackson.

Oh, please. Nick Fury is such a trite, generic role that ANYONE with a little more range than Sly Stallone could do it. Fury is one of the most cliched stereotypes in film/fantasy history. There is nothing inherently complex or difficult about playing him at all, why not SJ?
