Justice League of America Beats Up Superman

POSTED BY Kenneth England, 18 August 2007

Well, sort of. Yesterday saw some infinitely interesting information come out regarding a massive hurry-up by the Warner studio of the Justice League of America movie, potentially pushing back or abandoning the upcoming Superman: Man of Steel sequel. Odds are, between those two options, this news only signals a push back of the Supes solo story, considering much work and money has already been pumped into the project. Officially, Warner Bros. contends that Man of Steel is still on track, which is all well and good I suppose. The first Superman movie was alright, but nowhere near as exciting as a JLA movie is.

As pointed out in the story, broken by IESB, Superman Returns didn't do as well as expected and the studio heads are chomping at the bit to get Justice League of America out as soon as possible both to make a big box-office splash as well as a way to launch the stand-alone hero movies for The Flash, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. A Green Lantern role that, if rumor is correct, would be the character that already-rumored-to-be-in-the-cast Jon Stewart would play. Be still, my beating heart. Jon Stewart, my favorite comedic mind playing one of my favorite comic characters? It sounds too good to be true.

If the report is correct, and let's cross our fingers that it is, production on JLA could start in as soon as seven months.

Jon Stewart? He's awfully short to play a hero...not that I'm heightist, or anything. Just that I never imagined that GL was 5.7. Can't wait to see the JLA Project moving forward...

Wouldn't it be amazing if Jon Stewart played the John Stewart Green Lantern? Except not black, obviously. My head just exploded in a fury of geekery.

Well wasn't Hal Jordan a test pilot? Most of those guys run to the short side. I mean tom cruise is like 4 feet tall and he played a fighter jock in Top Gun. But seriously, in this day of film making it doesnt matter.

They should do Man of Steel first

As much as I'd like to help perpetuate this rumor, KPE is correct, the rumor is that they'll use the Green Lantern John Stewart, not TV personality Jon Stewart as Green Lantern.

I hear Tim Curry is going to be Aquaman, though.

Isn't it interesting that John Stewart was included in the Justice League cartoon for diversity's sake, and that simple stroke has culminated into this. No Hal in a JLA movie? I would prefer we see an army of GL with Hal leaving Earth in Stewart's hands. That way, the Corps is established for a flick, we get a Hal cameo, and John takes the spotlight as the League's token black guy. That is, after all, the only reason he'll be there.
