A Beatdown of Marvelous Proportions

Fans of the old Capcom-produced Marvel video games rejoice! EA Chicago has released a press release giving some details on a new Marvel-themed fighting game, due sometime in 2008 (most likely holiday quarter, when 90% of big name games release.)
I’m typically not excited when I hear about any EA project, given that they are really the Fox of the video game world: obsessed with the bottom line and not terribly concerned with ruining licenses (Marvel Nemesis, I'm looking at you.) The Chicago studio has produced some quality games however, notably “Def Jam: Icon” which gives it a good amount of credibility to handle a top shelf franchise such as Marvel.
The game will feature a lineup of heroes and villains full of the usual suspects, with hopefully a few surprises. In an odd and nerdy promise to fans, general manager of EA Chicago Kudo Tsunoda said that “every battle will be like a first edition.” Uh, ok.
Fans who want to catch an early sneak peek should check out “Game Head” on Spike TV on August 31st.
