Thor Snatches Director

POSTED BY Kenneth England, 10 August 2007

It’s no secret that next year is going to mark a red-letter year for comic movies. We all know the franchises that are hitting the screen, and we (as comic fans) are extremely excited about most of them. When news of a Thor movie broke it didn’t seem inherently interesting, but that has changed with the naming of Matthew Vaughn as director. Don’t get me wrong, I like Thor (although I liked Beta Ray Bill more) as a comic character, I just felt the project was rife for mediocrity in the wrong hands.

Vaughn brings a truckload of quality and respectability to the project, having just directed the newly released “Stardust,” arguably the most talked about and critically acclaimed movie released so far this year. Add to that his production and directorial credits on the transcendently great trilogy “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” “Snatch” and “Layer Cake” and you have what appears to be a sure-fire lock for a great comic-action film.

I'm actually pretty surprised he would sign on for this project, given the acclaim this Stardust film is garnering. I missed Snatch, but LS&2SB and Layer Cake were great journeyman efforts.
