Batrumors: Animated DVD Feature to Bridge "Batman" Movies?

POSTED BY Kenneth England, 07 August 2007

A production document seems to have surfaced (assuming that it is legitimate) that details plans to produce an animated straight-to-DVD Batman feature to be released just before the release of "The Dark Knight." The project will apparently be PG-13 and will bridge the stories of the two movies.

The document states that this "brand-new adventure follows Batman as he unravels a mystery over six short stories done in the style of Japanese anime." The document also places the talent of Josh Olsen, David Goyer ("Batman Begins" screenwriter) and Brian Azzarello.

Based on the quality of "Batman Begins" and the anticipated quality of "Dark Knight," as well as the quality of the creative talent on-board for this, I certainly hope this rumor is true. There's always room for another well-designed, well-executed comic featurette, and the Batman universe certainly lends itself well to a dark, anime-style feature.
