Myspace Goes Geek
Myspace, the world’s largest teen “let’s get together and make out” site, has launched a monthly comic project along with venerable comic publisher Dark Horse Comics (famous for classic fan favorites such as “Sin City,” “300,” “Concrete,” and “Grendel”) to produce webcomics exclusive to the massively popular social website.
Clearly, the headliner for this show is “Sugarshock,” written by Joss “geek girls swoon over me” Whedon and featuring some very attractive and compelling art by Fabio Moon. It’s a cute/funny/sarcastic story about a band from Earth that apparently travels interstellar to compete in an intergalactic battle of the bands. Sounds trite and stupid, yes? Well, it’s actually pretty endearing, and leaves you wanting more.
Other titles include “The Umbrella Academy” by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba, “Samurai Heaven and Earth” by Ron Marz and Luke Ross, and “The Comic-Con Murder Case” by Rick Geary.
The best part about all this? It’s all free, so you can’t really complain if you don’t like it. The series editors will also search Myspace to find new comic talent to showcase every issue, mixing in amateur stories with the professional ones.

I'm excited about the Ron Marz title. The Path was an awesome comic so I know the guy can write some samurai fun-ness.
This is an example of everything thats wrong with online comics. Poorly designed panels, hard to read word balloons, and the web page design isnt suited for comics at all. Does anyone even know what COMIC means? Comic means panels read from left to right, ie the cartoons you see in newspapers are called comic strips. Panels read top to bottom are called Cine. I love DHP, I have many of the original run in my collection and am glad to see its return, but this is a horrible presentation.
