Terrance Howard Talks Iron Man

The beauty of the “X-Men” and “Spider-Man” movie franchises was the fact that it made it desirable and attractive for big name, high talent actors and actresses to play our favorite comic characters. In a sense, those movies made it cool to be nerdy and brought comic books out of the basement and into the mainstream. This fact has opened the doors for the fantastic and talented casts that make up the upcoming “Hulk” and “Iron Man” movies. I certainly never expected to see an actor of the caliber of a Terrance Howard to be playing Jim Rhodes, but it’s thrilling that the role will be brought to life by such capable hands. In a recent interview at Comic-Con, the actor gave an excellent interview about the movie.

Very quickly into the interview you realize Howard really gets this role, and really gets the Iron Man (and Marvel, at that) universe and understands the small details that make it come alive. And I mean he gets it, after reading this interview I get the impression Howard could go toe to toe with any comic geek on a minutiae level and stand his ground. Having a talented, respected actor who really knows comics play a comic role? Well, that’s really the holy grail, isn’t it?

He also understands that, if we get sequels, he may get to play the lead as Iron Man while Downey self-destructs on substances (a role he’s prepared for his whole life.) This doesn’t seem so far fetched with the references of Marvel and Favreau looking at the “future aspects” of the story, as he puts it.
