Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps Special - A Spoiler Free Review
In a pretty great week for comics, the Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps Special is a can't miss. Sure, its billed as a prelude to the Sinestro Corps War, running through issues of Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps. Sure, its a one-shot that's based heavily in the continuity of both books.
But this book kicks amazing amounts of arse. Huge moments abound throughout the book, both emotional, and actiony. Which is a word. One of the wonderful things about Geoff Johns writing is that his story arcs are steeped in continuity, while still being entirely accesible to the casual fan. This pays off well in the Special, as we're treated to great individual scenes involving every Green Lantern, as well as tie-ins to the rest of the DC Universe that don't make you want to smack your forehead (or run out and try to catch up on Countdown.)
I've been balking from picking up Green Lantern mainly because I was just "eh" on the first few issues, but with this new cross-over, the series is a "Must Read." From the art to the writing: Amazing.
One last note, and I promised to make this a spoiler free review, but this issue has by far one of the biggest reveals on the last page in the last, oh, say, twenty-one years. It makes perfect story sense to have the reveal where it is, and sets this up to be bigger than Countdown, bigger than 52, bigger than even Infinite Crisis.
Have I convinced you yet?
