If it wasnt for Killing Joke or Arkham Asylum; this would be my favorite Bats story.

The art is fantastic, as always with Sale...and this is the best story Loeb has ever done in his career. He didnt outright suck after this story, but I cant think of anything better he's done before and after this. The Joker X-Mas story is the best in this collection, with a perfect Two-Face transformation as well.

Alex, you're so right on this being the "pinnacle" of their careers, this piece of work just can't be topped. My friend hasn't read Long Halloween, so I should let him borrow the book before we all go to see Dark Knight! :)

As much as I love this book, the ending still confuses me. I mean, are we to believe [this one person] is the killer or is the epilogue the truth? Dark Victory is pretty cool, too, but I never read When In Rome...any good?

This book was very great to pick up and read in one sitting. The edition you're holding in your hand is basically the only way I've read it, but the introduction and epilogue stuff were really great additions to the experience.

I don't agree that it's the best Batman story ever, but it's the best Batman/Gangland story ever. Batman covers too many genres to even have a best story.
