In honor of the great Arthur C. Clarke's passing I thought I'd take a moment to pay homage to the man who influenced so many people. Most probably remember Clarke for his popular science fiction novels like 2001: A Space Oddysey, Childhood's End, and The Fountains of Paradise. What you may not know is that he came up with the idea for geosynchronos satellites. He was talking about communications satellites, but even in the comic book world people listened. That's why the Justice League's Watchtower sits in space and why today you can make a call around the world with your cell phone.

Clarke's writing was most known for highlighting the positive role of technology in mankinds exploration of space (just like Gene Roddenberry). Once when asked to write a six-word story for Wired Magazine, Clarke submitted: "God said, 'Cancel Program GENESIS.' The universe ceased to exist." There were a few extra words, but Clarke refused to remove them. The story was just fine the way it was.

Thank you for so many great stories Mr. Clarke.
