Free Comic Book Day Comics - Revealed!
POSTED BY Alex Zalben, 15 February 2008

Spoiler alert! The Free Comic Book Day website has updated their offerings for May 3rd, the official national holiday for our favorite past-time. You can check out the list
here, but I'll copy in some highlights:
- X-MEN—FCBD 2008 EDITION by Mike Carey & Greg Land: Once again, Marvel releases an original by a super-star team for FCBD. I think even the Greg Land haters will be okay with a free issue. Maybe not.
- HELLBOY/B.P.R.D.—FCBD 2008 EDITION by Mike Mignola & Various: Also on the original front, Dark Horse does the smart thing, and ties into the release of Hellboy 2. Actually, why isn't Marvel releasing an Iron Man/Hulk cross-over? Weird.
- ALL STAR SUPERMAN #1—FCBD 2008 EDITION by Grant Morrison & Frank Quitely: Okay, fine DC. Release a reprint, but make sure it's one of the best comics of the past few years. OKAY. Fine. You win.
- DRAFTED—FCBD 2008 EDITION: Devil's Due is releasing what I hope is the full first issue of one of the best new comics I've read in a long time. It's high concept, far reaching sci-fi that has yet to dip into cheese.
- MAINTENANCE #1—FCBD 2008 EDITION by Jim Massey & Robbi Rodriguez:
Again, we love this series. Pick this up! It's free!

One quibble: It can be hard to read text that is red on a dark background. Secondly, DC is going with a reprint? That's not cool and is, I fear, indicative of why DC is always second fiddle to Marvel. I'll take part in this year's Free Comic Book Day for the first time ever and it is obvious which book I'll grab, The X-Men offering.
I always get a huge stack of comics from my supplier on FCBD, I think Marvels last year was a Civil War sketch book or something, I forget. I think its cool that they give away something worthwhile.
I agree the new background color is terrible, or at least a poor choice if your going to use black and dark texts. I cant read any of the red, and the black is very difficult.
