"Cloverfield"/"Heroes" Crossover
Well, I totally missed this one. Slusho, the frosty drink that's leading the viral campaign for J.J. Abrams monster mash, Cloverfield, has appeared several times on Heroes. In this week's episode, it featured prominently in a bit of physical comedy* with Kristen Bell's character, Elle.
Okay, so check this out:
- Lost and Alias clearly take place in the same universe, as they're J.J. Abrams shows, there's been multiples references in Alias to various bits of Lost stuff (including references to Driveshaft, poor, dead Charlie's band.)
- Chances are that Cloverfield also exists in the same universe. I wouldn't be surprised if they listen to Driveshaft at the opening party scene.
- Now, over on NBC, a different network than Lost and Alias, there have been two mentions of Abrams-verse properties. The first was a joke about Oceanic Flight 815 on Chuck, and now the Slusho appearances on Heroes.
- HOWEVER. Universal is releasing Cloverfield, and Universal owns NBC, and also produces Heroes, so I think I solved the mystery.
The weird of bit of continuity porn is that Heroes now exists in the same universe as Cloverfield, and by extension, Lost and Alias. And I guess Chuck or whatever.
Final little caveat: one of the producers (and I'm sorry, I can't find the quote right now) has said there may be a little more interplay between the two than just little visual jokes. Is Cloverfield secretly a Heroes movie? Will Heroes deal with the fall-out of the Cloverfield monster attack? Will any of this matters if Heroes doesn't continue past next week's episode, and Cloverfield flops? Answer: Nope.

*Which was actually pretty well done, btw.
