Marshall Rogers Dies
I was saddened to read on ComicMix this morning that Marshall Rogers has passed away.
According to the story Rogers was just 57.
I remember reading his work on Detective back in the late 70’s with Steve Englehart. Much of that work was the basis of Tim Burton’s 1989 BATMAN movie adaptation. Marshall’s art was unique and beautiful to look at to say the least.
I got to meet Marshall briefly about ten years ago. A friend of mine was working with him for Absolute Entertainment, a video game company, and my friend knew I would be thrilled to meet Marshall. The three of us had dinner and it really was a thrill. He was a great guy – funny, charming and had great stories to tell about working on the Batman series and comics in general.
With all the talk of fictional deaths in comic books, it is sad to lose another great talent and know that in real life they’re not coming back.
If you’ve never seen Marshall’s artwork, I suggest you check out some of the trade reprints of his work on Detective Comics, Scorpio Rose and his late 80’s Silver Surfer work.
