The Comic-Movie Rundown
Been a while since I brought you fine readers some of the ever-ubiquitous comic-movie news, so I'm back with a sack full of D.C. (and indie) movie news to bring you today. How much news fits in a sack, you ask? Enough to keep you happy. Now, let's get to it.
Let's start with Wonder Woman, since it pleases me that the Katie Holmes-as-Diana rumor was just that... a rumor. Despite her resemblance to a young Linda Carter (I mean, compare the cheekbones...) something deep inside told me that casting wasn't going to work. Enter Jessica Biel, who according to Guardian Unlimited and Variety will be taking on the role in the upcoming Justice League of America movie, although it is still unofficial at this point... Warner is still waiting to make all cast announcements in a single release. I would say that Biel is a good choice due to experience in comics movies from her previous stint in Blade: Trinity, but for the sake of my sanity I try my best not to think about that movie. Let's move on.

Insert tired, cliched "She could lasso me anytime" joke here.
You can joke about the Rock all you want, but the truth of the matter is he's an actor who is extremely passionate about geek culture, and since he's a geek himself, it makes sense. So I, for one, was excited to hear that he will be in the upcoming Shazam! movie. But what role will he play? IESB has posted a video interview with him where he explains that you, the loyal comic-reader fanbase, will be the most instrumental factor in deciding exactly who he plays. I see him more as a Black Adam character, but maybe that's just me. I only wish more members of Hollywood understood the passion and loyalty of comic fans as a tool to make a product better rather than a pool of money ready for the taking.
This just in: a Shazam! movie done right would be awesome.
IDW Publishing is releasing a slew of 30 Days of Night merchandise to coincide with the release of the movie (and the fifth anniversary of the comic.) The goods consist of a movie scriptbook, a hardcover compilation of the original comic, a reprint of the original issue of the comic (that only had a run of 3,000 copies) and a sourcebook compiling the comic world in an F.B.I. scrapbook fashion. So if you haven't read the series before, IDW is giving you an excellent reason to do so now.
The least hyped comic-movie out there and it will probably be one of the best.
Lastly, Variety is reporting that Beatrice Rosen and Joshua Harto have been added to the cast of The Dark Knight. With this movie already so deep into filming, one wonders what the roles being introduced by the new casting are and how involved they will be in the story. Conventional wisdom suggests that the roles will be minor given this line of thinking, but I've been known to be wrong before... from time to time.
As if Batman doesn't have enough lady problems without adding another one. Batman, wonder woman, Dark Knight, Justice League of America, 30 Days of Night, Shazam!
