How can you just GIVE away your comics?
My name is Pete LePage and I am a huge comic book fan!The first comic I ever got was a Spider-Man comic and it was because
I went grocery shopping with my Mom. She said if I was good I would get a treat.
I was hoping for candy, but I got Spider-Man.
At first I was pissed, but after that I never missed a grocery store run.
Then, I found Eastman and Lairds TMNT at my local comic shop. What a great comic that was! First thing I do when I go to a new comic book shop is to see if they have any TMNT comics that I don’t have.
Anyway working at Pulp Secret is very cool.
It is very hard to focus though, because I am constantly thinking about David Levin’s comic book collection. I am pretty pissed that I can’t get my hands on any of those books he is GIVING away.
I mean can you just GIVE your comic book collection away?! I mean my collection is a timeline of my life, a reflection of my beliefs and experiences. Maybe that is stretching it a little, but my point is how can a man just give his freaking collection away? To me that is like “here have my kid.”
Sure I have spent tons of money on him or her, sure I have spent hours upon hours with he, or she, but I don’t want the guy or gal anymore. Take this meaningless person away from me
I am bored of – what’s your name again, kid?
How did I get involved in all this?
It started last year when Alex first saw me on a Wednesday, geeking out and reading some comics. He then talked to me about his love for comics and how he has always wanted to do a show about them.
I said I would love to do that and he told me about Justin. We started the Comic Book Club - a
live weekly talk show about comics, with musical guest, comedian guests, and comic book guests. It goes up every Tuesday night at 9:30 at the Pit in New York City. We’ve had some amazing guests – including Joe Quesada and Dan Slott. Check it out if you’re in the city.
One night, David Levin saw the show and now here we are doing Pulp Secret. We hope you like it.
For the record I believe if you like a comic that is all that matters.
Alex and Justin like to kid me about my love for The Punisher and Spawn.
Recently, the Spawn creators decided to make Spawn a wife beater and said he punched Wanda in the stomach, when she was preggers.
WHAT!
It’s like: “Oh, by the way you know that character you have been following for years and supporting?” “Yeah?” “He sucks, FYI.”
Thanks to working with Pulp Secret, I had a heart to heart with the people at Image at the NY Comic Con. I’m still in therapy, though.
Don’t judge. You read what you like and I will read what I like. Sometimes it will overlap,
sometimes not. But the fun is in the discussion!
The show has really given me an excuse and a reason to read new books like Ex Machina and other publishers like Top Shelf.
My point? This is new and we are trying to have our love of comics show through with this show.
We appreciate the responses good and bad and we hope you keep checking us out!
