JLA Gets Director and.... Death?

    POSTED BY , 02 August 2007

Rumors abound today that the JLA movie that has been whispered about (and blabbed about in my column last week) has found a director. The word on the street is that George Miller, best known for directing “Mad Max” and “Happy Feet,” will be directing the Justice League movie. Hmm… from “Happy Feet” to “Justice League of America”… that’s a rather odd juxtaposition.

As odd as that transition may be for him, at least this is the guy who brought us “Mad Max” so that gives some hope (although it was so long ago let’s hope he remembers how to make an action movie.)

Even more surprising than this rumor, however, is the rumor that one of the characters in the movie will die. That is certainly a shocker, as no one expects to see a major death in the first chapter of a major revamp, so I’d be extremely surprised if the death (if it’s a legitimate rumor) is one of major importance.

This movie couldn’t get here fast enough. Out of all the comics movies coming down the pike, the only thing I’m more excited to see than the "Watchmen" adaptation is a live action Green Lantern with nice, cutting edge CGI.

I could see them using a character's death as a means to then start a new solo movie franchise with a character. Wonder Woman has a lot of godly mythos around her so maybe they would pull an "Elektra" with her. Plus I've only ever heard of a Flash movie with Wally West as the Flash, so if we see Barry Allen in this movie... well... ya know?

I'd be extremely surprised if anyone major dies. If anyone major does die, I'd bet on Flash, since he probably has less cache with audiences than the other big characters do. He certainly doesn't have the marketing and recognizability factor that the others do.

Superman? Maybe Doomsday kills him after he fights the JLA. IMHO though it would be nice to see the death of Barry Allen and then have Wally take over in his own flim.
