Why would there be a single Initiative member in Alaska when two of the X-Men's biggest battles over the past couple years have happened in Alaska...

    • IJones (guest) wrote on July 2, 11:46 am

I wasn't to keen when Supreme Power got watered down into the current Squadron Supreme. I also wasn't happy when it was canned in the middle of a storyline. Having said that, I'll try the first few issues to see what Chaykin does with this title.

Glad to see the comments from the voicemail segment. Both of my favorites were mentioned. Cap and the fabulous Walking Dead (that reminds me, # 50 is due out today...gotta get to my LCS!)

How 'bout Dolph Lundgren as Cap? I can hear him now,"I must break you."

Daniel "I think James bond is ready for a gay scene" Craig as Captain America? The guy is also a Brit. WTF are you thinking pete. F's sake.

    • Andy (guest) wrote on July 2, 12:11 pm

Plenty of British people can do good american accents, Hugh Laurie for instance. I think Craig certainly looks the part.

    • IJones (guest) wrote on July 4, 11:24 pm

Does that James Bond gay scene bother you?

He could give Cap that grit edge from Ultimates.

    • DrDoobious wrote on July 5, 5:35 pm

I kinda think that Captain -America- should be played by an American actor haha

    • Steven J. Vasquez (guest) wrote on July 2, 12:36 pm

Dug on the art that you guys showed for Superman #677. I may have to look into a copy when I go to the comic shop next week. Hellcat #1 seems somewhat "manga-like" to me and I don't dig on manga, really. Sounds like you guys found something about it you each liked, however. Probably won't pick it up. Squadron Supreme didn't interest me too much either and I came close to putting it on my pull-list. Loved the J. Michael Straczynski run.

As for who should play Captain America?

      I vote for Justin!!!

Justin Tyler a.k.a Captain America: Sentinel of Puberty!!!!! (just effin' with ya', Justin)

To tell the truth, I'd always been a Paul Walker as Cap guy. It'd have to be someone about his size (the suit would also bulk him up even bigger too) in the Avengers flick when he's next to Thor (who should be bigger than Cap).
I have, however, changed that opinion of Walker as Cap to thinking more toward an unknown.

All I know is that Matthew McConaughey wouldn't work as Cap. He'd really have to do something about the accent. I just don't see Wooderson from Dazed And Confused (one of my all-time favorite flicks) as Cap.
      ------------------
Snippet of dialogue from the Captain America movie starring Matthew McConaughey:

Cap (to Bucky): You cain't do what ever'one else tells ya' what ta do. You gotta' do what Buchannan "Bucky" Barnes wants ta do!!!

      Livin'!!! L-I-V-I-N'!!!!!!!

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote on July 2, 2:01 pm

This Hellcat your reviewing....yeah I dont care if the art is great (which it is)...there is no reason to pick it up. BTW I think Pete ment that we have yet to see a lot of Initative teams so it's 'finally' great to see another team develop. Still, how much adventures can you have in Alaska? For Robinson's Superman....meh it was okay, not spectular, but okay. I mean it's pretty gutsy to start an arc with that dog for the first couple of pages. But I'm sure Robinson has big plans for this title and it's his first issue. Hell Geoff John's Action Comics started slow, now it's a big fucking thing!

As for the Captain America role, someone said it on the forums and I agree, how bout Mark Walburg? Sure he's a Boston guy and not a New Yorker, but he looks like him, and he's been a pretty good actor. It shouldnt be too hard to buff him up for the part, since he's done some action movies. There really isnt anyone else I can think of to play the part. Marvel is getting HUGE actors to play these characters, but they have run out of Oscar Nominated actors eventually. Dont be surprised if it could be an unknown actor playing this.

Oh and for Ultimate Spider-Man: Nothing makes me laugh more then that whole Forest Gump reference. Venom as Gump? Priceless.

I was abit surprised that you guys didn,t comr up with better chioces for who should play captain america. When you think of cap you have go all american like Jared Padalecki of Supernatural or Tahmoh Penikett Josh Hartnet also theres a lot of talk about Leonardo DiCaprio who has been playing alot of tough character roles of late the Departed Blood Diamond these are the type of actors i think marvel will thinking about not brits not missing links like titan actualy come to think of it if he can act just a little bit he would make a desent thor anyway i like the show a lot keep up the great work.

      Dude. Periods. Use 'em.

    • Fun Police (guest) wrote on July 2, 3:14 pm

Well looks like I won't be checking out Squadron Supreme after all. I was really hoping they'd be able to get back some of magic JMS did with that title. As for Cap? Mark-Paul Gosselaar. I'm serious. Alex's suggestion of Titan isn't bad either. Although him in the Cap costume would just remind me of Rob Liefeld's run.

Why hello Patsy Walker, welcome to my pull list.

    • Bombardem wrote on July 2, 4:26 pm

It was good to see Pete channeling me with his "What is going on? Why are we talking about this?" which is pretty much the question I ask every show...you guys must just pull comics out of a big box while blindfolded, and the box is full of crappy comics.

As for Captain America, I think it should be an unknown as well. I think Afleck proved it's just too distracting to have a well known actor in that half mask.

So, what happened to the WANTED review? You guys do half a show about how you are going to see it, and then never talk about it?

And what, no Dark Knight sneak preview? Everyone in the media has seen this already, what happened? There is HUGE Oscar buzz about Ledger's Joker performance, and Kevin Smith says in his blog "It’s the “Godfather II” of comic book films and three times more earnest than “Batman Begins” (and fuck, was that an earnest film). Easily the most adult comic book film ever made. Heath Ledger didn’t so much give a performance as he disappeared completely into the role"

    • Bombardem (guest) wrote on July 2, 7:15 pm

Hi guys, I'm so sorry again! I MEANT to say, I hope you can get to Dark Knight and Wanted reviews, that would be cool. Negativity never got anyone anything, my bad!

    • TheNextChampion (guest) wrote on July 2, 7:33 pm

Whoever is posing as Bom, stop doing it! Can he be an ass? Hell yes. But at least he give some good opinions to the show. Sorry if you dont like it that not everyone loves Pulp Secret like this man posting as Bom is. Just fucking deal with it or we'll get your ass banned!

      Thank you.

    • IJones (guest) wrote on July 2, 9:31 pm

Whoa! Hold there little doggie! Da Bomb is making some very valid points. Where is the "review" of Wanted? Why plug it and not taljk about? If you're just going to do previews, why not do a DK preview? If Bomb wasn't interested he won't keep checking in. Sure he can be harsh, but, most times it's really constructive.

SAVE DA BOMB FROM GETTING BANNED!

    • Bombardem wrote on July 3, 4:02 am

Posing? Do you see a guest tag next to my name? And who are you to call for banning anyone with your potty mouth? At least I generally critique without stooping to profanity, and only do so to make a point of how strongly I feel, instead of just spewing bile like you have so many times.

Again I'll say, if you dont like my opinions, you dont have to read them anymore than I have to watch the show.

    • Andy (guest) wrote on July 3, 10:35 am

What in the world is going on? Why are people talking about bannings?

    • IJones (guest) wrote on July 4, 11:26 pm

It's the end of the world as we know Andy.

    • Chew (guest) wrote on July 2, 5:20 pm

      Casting Captain America: Aaron Eckhart.

I understand that he's already in The Dark Knight and may stay in peoples' minds as Two Face, but he's perfect for the role. Blond-haired, blue-eyed, square-jaw-cleft-ching, All American good looking guy. Plus he's a great actor. Get this guy in a Cap uniform STAT.

    • IJones (guest) wrote on July 2, 9:38 pm

Not a bad choice. But, I agree, I think he'll stay in the minds of fans as Two-Face. (DK is so going to rock) Seeing James Marsden in Superman took me out of it as I thought of him as Cyclops. I didn't have that problem with him in Enchanted though... It was hilarious! Best thing I've seen him do.

    • evan (guest) wrote on July 2, 7:01 pm

probably the best choice for captain america would be an unknown actor. but if i had to pick an A-list actor, then why not Brad Pitt. he's a good actor.

    • Bombardem wrote on July 3, 4:26 am

Here's a show idea/suggestion I think everyone could get behind.

Have a contest guessing what the Opening Weekend Box Office numbers will be for Dark Knight.

    • Brandon (guest) wrote on July 3, 4:37 am

I think that Brad Beyer from Jericho would be a good choice to play Captain America. He's big, athletic and I think he could really pull off a good hearted, patriotic Cap.

    • thinwhiteduke wrote on July 3, 8:59 am

I am completely on board for Robinsons Superman run! I was horribly disappointed in Astonishing X-Men this week, ugh it was barely readable. Tons of dialogue, yet I come away from it learning only that Scott and Emma fuck a lot, Orror and Panther fuck a lot, and Beast and agent Brand fuck on goverment time and get paid for it. Also Pete read Final Crisis, you not reading it is lowering the quality of the shows when it is reviewed, i will pay Alex the 1 Million, but read it, because we want to hear your opinion

    • IJones (guest) wrote on July 3, 9:13 am

Stick to your guns Pete! There's two other guys there that'll read that messed up story.

    • I Eatz Planets wrote on July 3, 12:08 pm

I have to go with the sheriff from Eureka. Hes tall, blond, and looks awesome

    • HipHopHead wrote on July 3, 12:33 pm

The best case scenario would be to cast an unknown as Captain America. It worked with Christopher Reeves as Superman and we know Hollywood loves to copy a successful formula. A cool "Falcon" would not hurt either.

    • tbone305 wrote on July 7, 8:13 pm

Mark Valley, from Boston Legal would make a pretty good cap. If not him, I'd go with an unknown.

Hellcat #1, Superman #677, and Squadron Supreme #1

Up first it's  look at Patsy Walker Hellcat #1.  Alex really loves writer Kathy Immonen's style of writing.  Next up it's Superman #677.  This issue was written by Justin's all-time favorite writer James Robinson (formerly of the Starman series).  Then we look at the debut issue of Squadron Supreme.  The guys like this series, and are really anticipating the next issue.  During this edition of the Speed Round we look at Pilot Season: Alibi, Ultimate Spiderman #123, Iron Fist #16, No Hero #0, and Fire and Brimstone #1

Finishing up, Matt writes in: "Captain America is coming out in 2011, who would you like to see play Captain America?"  Pete makes a hilarious Nicholas Cage joke.  Be sure to watch the episode to find out what they think.  Who do you think should play Captain America?  Let us know.
